We had the chance to catch up with LocoMuerte, a French Chicano Crossover Punk Trash band that’s been tearing up stages for over 15 years. This interview took place during the Plan’R Fest, held the weekend of July 4th and 5th, 2025, in the tiny hamlet of Montcul near Colombier-Saugnieu, just outside Lyon.

El Mitcho (guitar) and El Floco (drums) were kind enough to answer our questions:

Nous avons eu l’opportunité d’interviewer LocoMuerte, un groupe français de Chicano Crossover Punk Trash,  qui parcourt les scènes depuis plus de 15 ans, dans le cadre du Festival Plan’R Fest organisé le week-end du 4 et 5 juillet 2025 dans le hameau de Montcul à Colombier-Saugnier, aux environs de Lyon.

El Mitcho (guitare) et El Floco (batterie) ont accepté de répondre à nos questions :

If you had to describe your music in one word?

In unison: Ahuevo! It basically means “we don’t give a damn!”

What are your musical influences?

El Mitcho: A ton. In metal, I’d say Metallica, Pantera, Madball, Suicidal Tendencies…

El Floco: Our influences are super diverse.

If you could dream up your ultimate collab?

In unison: Metallica!

El Mitcho: We’ve got mad respect for that band. They’ve dropped some legendary records. Sure, some stuff they did later was kinda meh, but they’re still standing! When you’ve put out albums like Kill ‘Em All, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, you can’t help but respect those guys, especially for still hitting the stage. They’ve inspired so many people. Huge props.

Did singing in Spanish come naturally?

El Mitcho: Our former singer was also into reggaeton on the side, and Spanish just sounded dope. We thought, “What if we throw down heavy metal riffs with reggaeton flows?” So we gave it a shot, and it clicked. We were just aiming to have some fun, not be all serious or pro again. We went into the studio for a little demo and came out with a full album, Maquina de guerra. It just happened, no overthinking.

El Floco: There was no master plan to make it work or be a hit. But there’s something about Spanish flow, it grooves hard. You can talk about dark stuff and somehow it still sounds cool (laughs).

El Mitcho: We played it for the guys from Black Bomb A, they loved it and pushed us to keep going! After that, we started opening for killer bands in Paris: Madball, Suicidal Tendencies, Skarhead… it just snowballed from there.

En chœur : Ahuevo, ça veut dire on s’en fout !

Quelles sont vos influences musicales ?

El Mitcho : Plein, dans le métal je dirais Metallica, Panthera, Madball, Suicidal Tendencies…

El Floco : On a des influences hyper variées

Si vous pouviez imaginer la collab de vos rêves ?

En chœur : Metallica !

El Mitcho : On a un grand respect pour ce groupe, ils ont fait des albums cultes. Même s’ils ont fait des trucs après un peu naze, mais ils sont toujours là ! Quand tu as fait des albums comme Kill’em all, Master of puppets, Ride the lightning, tu peux avoir que du respect pour ces mecs là, notamment de jouer encore. Et ils ont influencé tellement de gens, grand respect !

Ce concept de chanter en espagnol, c’est venu naturellement ?

El Mitcho : Notre ancien chanteur faisait du reggaeton à côté, on trouvait que ça sonnait bien l’espagnol. On s’est dit que ce serait génial qu’on fasse des gros riffs metal avec des flows reggaeton, essayons ! Et ça l’a fait, on s’est dit qu’on allait faire une petite démo et au final on est sorti du studio avec un album, Maquina de guerra. C’est venu naturellement, sans se prendre la tête. Au départ on ne cherchait plus à être professionnels, on cherchait juste à se marrer. 

El Floco : Il n’y avais pas l’envie de calculer un truc pour que ça marche. Mais il y a un truc avec ce flow en espagnol, qui groove. Tu peux raconter des trucs hyper sombres, en espagnol ça passe toujours (rires).

El Mitcho : On a fait écouter aux membres de Black Bomb A, qui ont surkiffé et nous ont encouragé à continuer ! On a ensuite enchainé des premières parties super intéressantes sur Paris : Madball, Suicidal Tendencies, Skarhead, pas mal de monde, et depuis tout s’est très vite enchainé !

Your latest album dropped in September, what’s next for you guys?

El Mitcho: Right now, we’re focused on promoting that album and also bringing back some of our older tracks, lots of folks didn’t know us before, so it’s always cool to play those songs again. That’s why tonight at Plan’R Fest, we’re doing a medley with tracks from our first three albums and the new one.

El Floco: We’re slowly sliding into writing mode again, there’s always something to create, but for now, the priority is pushing the latest album and celebrating our older stuff too. Before that release, we re-recorded kind of a best-of with the new lineup, all the classic tracks but with today’s sound, new musicians, and heavy production by Stéphane Buriez and HK from Studio Vamacara. So we’re promoting that record too. Setlists are tough these days, especially at festivals, the sets are shorter, so we gotta make ‘em count.

At the end of last year, you launched a fundraiser to head to Venice Beach. Can you tell us more about that?

El Mitcho: Yep, it’s happening! We’re flying out mid-September.

El Floco: We were actually supposed to go in January, but there were massive wildfires around LA. We had to cancel the day before leaving, the air was crazy toxic, and people just weren’t in the right headspace for shows.

El Mitcho: Now it’s back on. We’re linking up with the original members of Suicidal Tendencies (minus Mike Muir), they’ve got a band called Luicidal. We’re playing with them on September 21st in Venice Beach. We’re also shooting a music video while we’re out there, maybe even a short doc on the Crossover and Skate Punk scene, and more stuff’s in the works. Super stoked! It’ll be our first show in the U.S. We’ve already played in Slovenia, Spain (and going back soon), Belgium, Switzerland, Tunisia…

Have you noticed any changes in your audience over the years?

El Floco: I joined the band after COVID, so I can’t really say.

El Mitcho: Back in the day, our crowd in Paris was mostly hardcore heads. Now it’s way more mixed, all kinds of people. We’ve got every age group, and a lot more women in the crowd than before. From 8-year-old kids to 70-year-old rockers, hardcore fans, thrashers… I love it! Back then it was mostly dudes and older folks. It’s so fun to see everyone just vibing together.

Votre dernier album est sorti en septembre, quelles sont les prochaines actus ?

El Mitcho : On va déjà défendre cet album, et également nos vieux morceaux : plein de gens ne nous connaissaient pas avant, donc ça nous fait toujours plaisir de rejouer ces morceaux. C’est pour ça que, pour ce soir au Plan’R Fest on fait un Medley avec des morceaux des 3 premiers albums et du nouveau.

El Floco : Après, on est déjà en train de rentrer doucement dans une phase de compo, on a toujours des trucs à créer. Mais pour l’instant on se focalise déjà sur défendre le dernier album et les anciens titres. Avant ce dernier album, on a réenregistré un espèce de best-of avec le nouveau line-up de tous les anciens morceaux avec le son actuel du groupe : les nouveaux musiciens et une grosse prod : Stéphane Buriez et HK du Studio Vamacara. Donc on défend aussi cet album là. On a du mal à faire les setlist pour les concerts, surtout en festival, les sessions sont plus courtes.

En fin d’année vous avez lancé une cagnotte pour partir à Venice Beach, vous pouvez nous en dire plus ?

El Mitcho : C’est acté, on part mi septembre

El Floco : En fait, on devait partir cet hiver, en janvier, mais il y a eu de très graves incendies à Los Angeles. Donc on a annulé la veille du départ, l’air était hyper toxique, les gens n’avaient pas la tête à ça…

El Mitcho : Donc on va rejoindre les fondateurs de Suicidal Tendencies (à part Mike Muir), qui ont un groupe qui s’appelle Luicidal, et on va jouer avec eux le 21 septembre à Venice Beach. On va en profiter pour tourner un clip vidéo, et peut-être un mini reportage sur la scène Crossover et Skate Punk, et encore plein d’autres choses prévues. On a hâte ! Ça va être la première fois qu’on joue aux Etats-Unis. On a déjà joué en Slovénie, Espagne (on y retourne bientôt), Belgique, Suisse, Tunisie…

Est-ce que vous avez remarqué une évolution du public depuis vos débuts ?

El Floco : Je suis arrivé dans le groupe après le Covid-19 donc je ne saurais pas dire…

El Mitcho : Avant on touchait un public très hardcore sur Paris, maintenant c’est beaucoup plus éclectique : on touche un peu tout le monde, notamment toutes les tranches d’âge et plus de filles qu’avant. On a aussi bien des mômes de 8 ans que des vieux de 70 ans, des harcoreux, des trasheux… Je suis super content de voir ça, à une époque on avait pas mal de vieux et des mecs. C’est fun de voir tous ces gens s’amuser!

At a festival, if you had to recommend ONE must-have item? And one thing to avoid?

El Floco: Hand sanitizer. And skip the flip-flops.

El Mitcho: A cap and a cup holder. And don’t get naked, at some point, someone’s gonna crush your balls (laughs).

Got a funny or totally WTF story for us?

El Mitcho: I broke my foot in Spain after the second show of the tour, skating, of course. Still finished the tour, limping around with a swollen foot in the van.
Or there was that time a dog jumped on stage at La Miroiterie in Paris, it rolled a Coke bottle under my wah-wah pedal!

El Floco: I once showered next to the guitarist from Steel Panther!

If someone had to discover LocoMuerte through one song, which one would it be?

El Mitcho: Bandolero. It’s from our first album, and we’ll probably always play it live, it hits hard and really represents who we are.

Final question: If LocoMuerte were a milkshake, what would you put in it?

El Floco: Tequila.

El Mitcho: Harissa. And a Bouledogue corn beer, we collaborated on that one. It’s a Mexican Lager, super tasty and goes down smooth!

En festival, si vous deviez conseiller UN objet indispensable ? Une chose à éviter ?

El Floco : Un gel hydroalcoolique. Et évitez de venir en tongs.

El Mitcho : Une casquette et un porte-gobelet. Et évitez de devenir tout nu, à un moment donné tu vas te faire écraser les baloches (rires)

Est-ce que vous auriez une anecdote un peu fun ou wtf à nous raconter ?

El Mitcho : Je me suis pété le pied en Espagne au bout du 2ème concert de la tournée, en faisant du skate. J’ai malgré tout fini la tournée, avec un pied bien gonflé dans le van.
Ou sinon un clébard qui était venu sur scène, à la Miroiterie à Paris, il avait fait rouler une bouteille de Coca sous ma pédale wah-wah !

El Floco : J’ai pris une douche à côté du guitariste de Steel Panther !

Si vous deviez choisir une chanson de LocoMuerte pour faire découvrir votre groupe ?

El Mitcho : Bandolero. C’est un morceau du premier album, qu’on jouera sûrement toujours car il marche bien sur scène. Ça nous représente bien !

Dernière question : si LocoMuerte était un milkshake, vous mettriez quoi dedans ?

El Floco : De la tequila

El Mitcho : De la Harissa, et une bière Bouledogue au maïs, on a fait une collab sur cette bière, la Mexican Lager, qui est très bonne et marche bien !
