Youth Code, the American metal/electro duo active since 2012, returns after four years of musical silence with Yours, With Malice, their second EP.

It’s an EP full of raw power, led by Sara Taylor’s screamed vocals and Ryan George’s electronic instrumentals. The duo offers us five tracks, each with a distinct color.

The first song, No Consequences, assaults us with all its aggression, driven by heavy percussion. In this track, Youth Code has accusations to make, and we almost feel guilty ourselves.

“I take what’s been given, I keep moving on”

This mantra, hammered home at the end, signals a rising back up after this intense piece.

Youth Code, duo américain métal/électro depuis 2012, revient après 4 ans de silence musical avec Yours, With Malice, leur deuxième EP. 

Un EP tout en puissance, guidé par la voix screamée de Sara Taylor et l’instrumentale électro de Ryan George. Le duo nous offre 5 musiques aux couleurs bien différentes. 

La toute première, No Consequences, nous attaque de toute son agressivité avec ses lourdes percussions. Dans ce titre, Youth Code a des reproches à faire et on s’en sentirait presque coupable.

Ce mantras martelé à la fin annonce la remontée après ce morceau très fort.

On Wishing Well, the instrumental lightens, somewhat, but not the message. The electronic side takes up more space, with an almost retro atmosphere in the background, while the vocals stay on their harsh path. As the EP goes on, the music gradually softens. In Search of Tomorrow brings in notes of doubt; the melody takes center stage. Make Sense continues this thread but chants a confident “I take whatever I can get.” I’m Sorry closes the EP with a rich cocktail of everything Youth Code does best: solid instrumentals, varied rhythms, a powerful voice, and a colorful electro sound.

Sur Wishing well, l’instrumentale s’allège -un peu-,  le discours pas du tout. L’électro prend plus de place, une ambiance presque rétro en arrière-plan tandis que la voix continue dans sa lignée. Puis au fil des morceaux la musique s’apaise, In Search of tomorrow nous apporte des notes de doute, la mélodie prend plus de place. Make sens reprend un peu cette lancée mais scande un “I take whatever I can get” affirmé. I’m Sorry conclut cet EP par un riche cocktail de ce que Youth Code a de mieux à offrir : une solide instrumentale, des rythmes variés, une voix puissante, un son électro coloré.
