Written and recorded in the lunar landscapes of Joshua Tree, the album carries a very distinct energy, somewhere between quiet reflection, simmering tension, and heavier bursts that land just right. It’s a tight eight-track record, but one that feels carefully curated. Every song has its purpose, nothing here feels like filler.

Avec Pink Moon, deuxième partie du diptyque amorcé par Antibloom, le groupe revient avec un disque plus posé, plus introspectif, comme une respiration après la tempête.

Écrit et enregistré dans le décor lunaire de Joshua Tree, l’album dégage une vibe très particulière : entre contemplation, tension contenue et passages plus rugueux, mais toujours bien intégrés. C’est court (8 titres), mais réfléchi. Chaque morceau a sa place, son rôle, et rien ne semble là juste pour remplir.

From the opening track “I Love You But I Have To Let You Go,” you know you’re stepping into emotional territory. It’s soft, almost fragile, and it sets the tone for an album that leans more into atmosphere than brute force. Then comes “Negative Space,” which brings the punch back, fast-paced, with a tight breakdown. Classic Silverstein, but still hits hard.

But things really get interesting when the band starts taking risks. There’s piano sprinkled throughout, textures you don’t usually hear from them, and a couple of well-placed guest appearances: Rory Rodriguez (Dayseeker) on “Drain The Blood,” and Cassadee Pope on “Autopilot.” Two collabs that might split opinions, but honestly? They show how willing the band is to push past their comfort zone.

Dès l’intro “I Love You But I Have To Let You Go”, on comprend qu’on est sur un terrain émotionnel. C’est doux, presque fragile, et ça ouvre la porte à un album qui joue plus sur les ambiances que sur la brutalité frontale. “Negative Space” ramène un peu de nerf, avec un rythme frénétique et un breakdown bien senti, classique, mais efficace.

Let’s be real, Pink Moon won’t please everyone. Some fans of the Shipwreck in the Sand era might find it too soft, too melodic, not “post-hardcore” enough. And yeah, it’s definitely a far cry from the chaos of the early days.

But what the band loses in urgency, they make up for in subtlety, emotion, and maturity. The songs feel intentional, cohesive, honest. It’s not an album that screams, it speaks. Sometimes it even whispers. But it still hits where it matters.

Un album qui ne plaira pas à tout le monde, et c’est OK

Clairement, Pink Moon ne va pas faire l’unanimité. Certains fans du Silverstein époque Shipwreck in the Sand risquent de le trouver trop lisse, trop mélodique, pas assez “post-hardcore”. Et c’est vrai qu’on est loin des tempêtes d’antan.

Mais ce que le groupe perd en urgence, il le gagne en nuance, en émotion, en maturité. Les morceaux sont soignés, cohérents, sincères. Ce n’est pas un album qui hurle, c’est un album qui parle, qui murmure parfois, mais qui touche quand même.

In the end, Pink Moon is the kind of album you listen to in a quiet moment, with some headspace. It’s not trying to win everyone over, but it’s got something deeply human running through it.

It might not be their most iconic record, but it’s an important one. And for a band 25 years into their career, the fact that they’re still taking creative risks? That’s huge.

C’est peut-être pas leur disque le plus marquant, mais c’est un chapitre important. Et pour un groupe de 25 ans de carrière, le fait qu’ils osent encore, c’est déjà énorme.
