It’s possible that this name doesn’t ring a bell. SAVE US is a band formed in 2023, after its three members met on TikTok while living on different continents. With Miguel Owls on vocals, Chris Biddiscombe on guitar, and Benji Havercroft on drums, Death To Something will be the band’s debut album, set for release on October 16th, with production handled by Landon Tewers of The Plot In You.

Prior to this debut full-length, SAVE US had already released two EPs, LUCID in 2023 and EXIST in 2024. More recently, Last Of Me brought together the tracks from the upcoming album that had already been released, offering a first taste of what Death To Something has in store for us.

SAVE US is a modern metalcore band that blends vulnerability with aggression. Their sound is built around atmosphere, combining guitar riffs and synths with influences from ERRA, Architects, and Deftones.

Avant ce premier long format, SAVE US avait déjà dévoilé deux EP, LUCID en 2023 et EXIST en 2024. Plus récemment, Last Of Me est venu compiler les morceaux du futur album déjà dévoilés, permettant ainsi d’avoir un premier aperçu de ce que Death To Something nous réserve.

SAVE US est un groupe de metalcore moderne qui allie vulnérabilité et agressivité. L’ambiance est au cœur de leurs morceaux, mélangeant riffs de guitare et synthés, avec des influences du côté d’ERRA, Architects et Deftones.

The album opens with Miguel’s soft vocals on Chains, soon joined by Chris and Benji’s instruments, which quickly sets the tone. The sound is atmospheric and restrained, with a vocal performance that leaves plenty of room to breathe.

“Are you ready for it ?” is repeated several times, preparing us for what’s coming on the rest of the album.

Last Of Me is a good representation of the band’s identity, with a palpable emotional tension and a contrast between clean vocals and raw, sometimes aggressive screams. Mente Fragmentade and Death To Something follow a similar structure, but with a colder, more menacing atmosphere and a satisfying breakdown towards the end of each track.

No Holding Down has a strong emo energy, with calm verses and a chorus carried by raw vocals and an intense atmosphere. An unexpected scream and some heavy guitar riffs suddenly emerge halfway through the song.

L’album s’ouvre sur la douce voix de Miguel dans Chains, bientôt rejointe par les instruments de Chris et Benji, qui posent rapidement l’ambiance. Le son est atmosphérique et tout en retenue, avec une interprétation vocale qui laisse beaucoup d’espace.

« Are you ready for it ? » est répété à plusieurs reprises, comme pour nous préparer à la suite de l’album.

Last Of Me est représentative de l’identité du groupe : on y retrouve une tension émotionnelle palpable, avec des contrastes entre chant clair et voix déchirante, voire agressive. Mente Fragmentade et Death To Something reprennent cette construction, mais avec une ambiance plus froide, plus menaçante, et un breakdown appréciable dans la dernière partie des morceaux.

No Holding Down a un côté emo assez marqué : des couplets calmes et un refrain porté par une voix et une ambiance déchirantes. Un petit scream et de gros riffs de guitare, auxquels on ne s’attend pas forcément, surgissent au milieu du morceau.

Seraphim sets a heavy, unsettling tone, with a mix of metal and electronic sounds. Melodic and atmospheric, but also aggressive, the song plays with these contrasts until the emotions explode. Landon Tewers’ signature can clearly be heard here.

This is the most intense track on the album.

Could the album be missing a touch of melancholy ? That’s where Far comes in. Miguel explained that the song was written while he was pursuing his musical dream, but also dealing with the deep pain of being away from his loved ones.

The album certainly delivers when it comes to ballads. Far is followed by Runaway and Bruised, which continue this bubble of sadness. Runaway is melancholic and atmospheric, while Bruised quickly leaves its softness behind for more intense and heartbreaking sounds, perfectly matching the dramatic edge Miguel brings to his vocals.

Le décor posé par Seraphim est lourd, inquiétant, avec un mélange de sonorités metal et électroniques. Mélodique, atmosphérique mais aussi violente, la chanson joue sur ces contrastes jusqu’à faire exploser les émotions. On y retrouve bien la patte de Landon Tewers.

Nous avons ici le morceau le plus intense de l’album.

Une touche de mélancolie manquerait-elle à l’appel ? C’est là que Far intervient. Miguel a expliqué que ce morceau avait été écrit alors qu’il poursuivait son rêve musical, mais qu’il ressentait une profonde douleur due à l’éloignement avec ses proches.

L’album nous gâte côté ballades, car Far s’enchaîne avec Runaway et Bruised, qui viennent s’inscrire dans cette bulle de tristesse. Runaway est mélancolique et atmosphérique, alors que Bruised abandonne rapidement sa douceur pour des sonorités plus intenses et déchirantes, qui s’accordent parfaitement avec le côté dramatique que Miguel sait apporter à sa voix.

Numb stands out from the rest of the album, blending modern rock sounds with metal breakdowns and screams. There are even several moments where the instruments, and especially Miguel’s vocals, becomes distorted, almost as if they were numb, referring to the song’s title.

With Cry, SAVE US leans into their pop side. The band has admitted to sometimes draw inspiration from the darker side of pop found in artists like Post Malone and PVRIS. Here, they give more space to melody, vocals, and different instrumental textures. The guitar riffs take a back seat, while the song gradually builds and becomes more emotionally intense in its second half.

Finally, the album ends with Statis, a very calm and melancholic song, with Miguel’s vocals accompanied by a piano during the first part. The track gradually builds in intensity towards the end, bringing the album to a close with a sound that is both soft and powerful, much like the band itself.

Numb se distingue des autres morceaux de l’album : elle allie les sonorités du rock moderne aux breakdowns et screams du metal. On y retrouve même plusieurs passages où les instruments, mais surtout la voix de Miguel, se retrouvent déformés, comme engourdis, en référence au titre du morceau.

Avec Cry, SAVE US pousse son côté pop. Le groupe a lui-même avoué parfois s’inspirer de la pop un peu sombre de Post Malone ou encore PVRIS. Ici, le groupe a décidé de laisser plus de place à la mélodie, à la voix et aux différentes textures instrumentales. Les riffs de guitare ne sont pas au premier plan et le morceau se construit progressivement et devient émotionnellement plus lourd dans sa deuxième partie.

Enfin, l’album se termine sur Statis, une chanson extrêmement calme et mélancolique, où la voix de Miguel est d’abord accompagnée d’un piano. Le morceau gagne progressivement en intensité sur la fin, pour refermer l’album sur un son à la fois doux et puissant, à l’image du groupe.

Does SAVE US bring anything new to the genre ? Not really, but there’s no denying their ability to blend these different styles and influences into a cohesive sound, giving us a highly atmospheric album that feels representative of their story.

To support the album, the band will hit the road for the first time across the United States from late October with some well-known names : Saosin, Silent Planet and Like Moths to Flames.

We can’t wait to see them in Europe.

Before they met, the members of SAVE US were all on the verge of giving up on music. That would have been a shame, wouldn’t it ?
