Very few albums manage to maintain this level of urgency and tension from start to finish. This Is Goodbye… is one of them.

You can clearly hear the influence of modern hardcore production, with that dry, heavy, almost clinical sound that brings to mind some of the more recent releases from the hardcore/metalcore scene, especially that oppressive, massive feel you get on Orthodox by Knocked Loose. It’s that same sense of sonic pressure, that way every breakdown hits like a collapsing wall. Every riff feels designed to build tension, every silence feels uncomfortable, and every explosion hits harder than the last.

But This Is Goodbye… isn’t just a brutal record. It’s also an incredibly well-constructed album. Chamber constantly balances chaos and control: the songs are short, sharp, and flow perfectly into one another, making the record feel like one compact piece of work rather than just a collection of tracks.

The album barely runs half an hour, but it feels like you’ve been through a storm. Chamber runs through these tracks without giving you time to breathe, with almost constant violence, like a long, dark, nervous downward spiral. This is not a record that tries to be accessible, it’s abrasive, unsettling, sometimes almost disturbing, but always incredibly intense.

Peu d’albums parviennent à créer une telle sensation d’urgence et de tension du début à la fin. This Is Goodbye… en fait partie.

On sent clairement une influence dans la production moderne hardcore, avec ce son très sec, très lourd, presque clinique, qui rappelle certaines productions récentes de la scène hardcore/metalcore, notamment ce côté oppressant et massif qu’on peut retrouver sur l’album Orthodox de Knocked Loose. Cette même sensation d’oppression sonore, cette façon de faire ressortir chaque breakdown comme un mur qui s’effondre. Chaque riff semble pensé pour créer de la tension, chaque silence pour mettre mal à l’aise, et chaque explosion pour être encore plus violente que la précédente.

Mais This Is Goodbye… n’est pas qu’un album brutal. C’est aussi un album extrêmement bien construit. Chamber joue constamment avec le chaos et la maîtrise : les morceaux sont courts, nerveux, et s’enchaînent parfaitement, donnant l’impression d’un bloc compact, d’une seule œuvre, plutôt qu’une simple collection de morceaux.

L’album dure à peine une demi-heure, mais il donne l’impression d’avoir traversé une tempête. Chamber enchaîne les morceaux sans te laisser respirer, avec une violence presque constante, comme une longue descente nerveuse et sombre. C’est un disque qui ne cherche jamais à être accessible : il est abrasif, angoissant, parfois presque dérangeant, mais toujours incroyablement intense.

With this new album, Chamber levels up and delivers what is probably their most intense and most fully realized record to date. From the very first seconds, the tone is set. Arms of Eternity. First track, first second, it feels like getting punched straight in the face. Chamber doesn’t warn you, there’s no intro, no time to settle in. The album starts like an explosion and almost never lets the pressure drop.

One of the most striking moments on the record is the transition between Arms of Eternity and Scarlet Ink. The guitar at the end of Arms of Eternity becomes the starting point of Scarlet Ink, and the transition is absolutely seamless. The beginning of Scarlet feels like a brief moment to breathe… but it doesn’t last long, because a few seconds later the violence hits you all over again and knocks the air right out of you.

A personal highlight for me is Violins. The clean vocal part that comes in around the 55-second mark is definitely surprising. Some people might find it a little controversial, but it works really well. It’s not some generic clean chorus thrown in to make the song more accessible, it’s implemented tastefully, and it adds a real contrast without taking away from the intensity of the track.

Avec ce nouvel album, Chamber franchit un cap et propose probablement son disque le plus intense et le plus abouti à ce jour. Dès les premières secondes, le ton est donné. Arms of Eternity. Premier titre, première seconde : un uppercut en pleine face. Chamber ne prévient pas, ne fait pas d’intro, ne laisse pas le temps de s’installer. L’album commence comme une explosion et ne redescend pratiquement jamais en pression.

Un des moments les plus marquants de l’album, c’est la transition entre Arms of Eternity et Scarlet Ink. La guitare à la fin de Arms of Eternity devient le point de départ de Scarlet Ink, et la liaison est absolument parfaite. Le début de Scarlet agit comme une courte respiration… mais elle est très brève, parce que quelques secondes plus tard, on a de nouveau le souffle coupé tant la violence revient nous exploser à la figure.

Gros coup de cœur personnel pour Violins. Le passage en voix claire qui démarre vers 55 secondes est pour le moins surprenant. Certains trouveront peut-être ça un peu controversé, mais ça fonctionne vraiment bien. Ce n’est pas un refrain clean cliché ajouté pour rendre le morceau plus accessible : c’est intégré intelligemment, avec goût, et ça apporte un vrai contraste sans casser l’intensité du morceau.

On Surveillance, the guitars are completely insane. It’s dissonant, chaotic, unpredictable, you can barely keep up with what’s going on, it’s completely wild. One minute and twenty-three seconds of pure, controlled madness.

Then there’s Parting Gift, with that scream at 2:04 that is just vicious. The kind of scream that sticks with you long after the song ends.

Right after that comes Without A Trace. The track fits perfectly into the mid-to-late album run, bringing a very dark atmosphere and a particularly memorable final breakdown. Lyrically, the song explores the idea of broken people rising to power by stepping on others, only to eventually be forced to face themselves when they’re left alone, a theme that fits perfectly with the overall atmosphere of the record.

The album barely gives you any room to breathe all the way to the final track, In Revolving Doors, which feels like one last blow to the back of the head. And then, at 2:28, a piano comes in, this almost airy atmosphere that contrasts with the violence of the entire album. It feels like the pressure finally dropping after the storm. The record ends on something almost soft, almost sweet, which makes the ending hit even harder.

Sur Surveillance, les guitares sont complètement folles. C’est dissonant, chaotique, imprévisible, on ne sait plus où donner de la tête, c’est complètement dingue. Une minute vingt-trois de pure folie contrôlée.

Et puis il y a Parting Gift, avec ce scream à 2:04 qui est juste monstrueux. Le genre de cri qui te reste dans la tête après l’écoute.

Juste après arrive “Without A Trace”. Le morceau s’inscrit parfaitement dans la dynamique de mi fin d’album, avec une ambiance très sombre et un breakdown final particulièrement marquant. Le titre parle notamment de personnes brisées qui accèdent au pouvoir en écrasant les autres, avant de devoir faire face à elles-mêmes une fois seules, un thème qui colle parfaitement à l’atmosphère générale du disque.

L’album ne laisse quasiment aucun répit jusqu’à la dernière chanson, In Revolving Doors, qui vient nous asséner un dernier coup derrière la nuque. Et puis, à 2:28, arrive ce piano, cette ambiance presque aérienne, qui vient contraster avec la violence de l’album du début à la fin. Comme une retombée de pression après la tempête. On termine donc sur quelque chose de presque doux, presque sucré, ce qui rend la fin encore plus marquante.

With This Is Goodbye…, Chamber delivers a short record, but one with rare intensity. It’s a violent, dark, chaotic yet perfectly controlled album that confirms the band as one of the most compelling forces in modern hardcore right now.

Avec This Is Goodbye…, Chamber livre un album court, mais d’une intensité rare. Un disque violent, sombre, chaotique mais parfaitement maîtrisé, qui confirme que le groupe fait partie de ce qui se fait de plus marquant dans le hardcore moderne actuel.
