June 20, 2026, Élysée Montmartre. It’s hot, seriously hot, and we already know that once we step through those doors, things aren’t exactly going to cool down. The night before, The Dillinger Escape Plan tore Hellfest apart. Tonight, the storm hits Paris for the one and only French date of their short European run.

One exclusive French show, Dimitri Minakakis back on the mic, and Calculating Infinity right at the heart of the mayhem: The Dillinger Escape Plan at Élysée Montmartre had all the makings of a can’t-miss show. With The Prestige kicking things off, Paris was in for a few hours of hardcore, mathcore, and perfectly orchestrated chaos.

20 juin 2026, Élysée Montmartre. Il fait chaud, très chaud, et on sait déjà qu’une fois les portes franchies, la température ne risque pas de redescendre. La veille, The Dillinger Escape Plan retournait le Hellfest. Ce soir, c’est Paris qui récupère la tornade pour l’unique date française de ce court passage européen.

Une date française unique, Dimitri Minakakis de retour au micro et Calculating Infinity au cœur des hostilités : le passage de The Dillinger Escape Plan à l’Élysée Montmartre avait tout du rendez-vous immanquable. Avec The Prestige pour ouvrir la soirée, Paris s’est offert quelques heures de hardcore, de mathcore et de chaos savamment orchestré.

And kicking off the night: The Prestige.

The Paris-based band plays a brand of hardcore that politely refuses to stay in its lane, bouncing between abrasive bursts, fractured structures, and more melodic breathing room pulled from post-rock and post-metal. On paper, pairing them with Dillinger already makes perfect sense. Onstage, it makes even more.

And The Prestige clearly aren’t here just to kill time before the headliner. The band uses the night to showcase Isthmos, their second album, released just a few months earlier, bringing enough personality to the stage that they never feel like they’re simply warming up the crowd for what comes next. It’s dense, restless, occasionally atmospheric, and above all, intense enough to give everyone’s neck muscles a heads-up about what they’re in for.

Et pour ouvrir les hostilités, le choix s’est porté sur The Prestige.

Les Parisiens évoluent dans un hardcore qui refuse gentiment de rester dans sa case, entre passages abrasifs, structures déstructurées et respirations plus mélodiques empruntées au post-rock et au post-metal. Sur le papier, l’association avec Dillinger paraît presque évidente. Sur scène, elle l’est encore davantage.

The Prestige n’est clairement pas là pour meubler en attendant la tête d’affiche. Le groupe profite de cette date pour défendre Isthmos, son deuxième album sorti quelques mois plus tôt, et impose son univers avec suffisamment de personnalité pour ne jamais donner l’impression de simplement chauffer la salle pour les suivants. C’est dense, nerveux, parfois plus atmosphérique, et surtout suffisamment intense pour préparer les cervicales à ce qui va suivre.

Because next up, obviously, is The Dillinger Escape Plan.

And any hope of keeping things calm goes straight out the window.

Nearly a decade after calling it quits, the mathcore pioneers are back to celebrate their 1999 landmark Calculating Infinity, with Dimitri Minakakis once again behind the mic. Alongside him, Ben Weinman, Liam Wilson, James Love, and Billy Rymer bring this early-years incarnation of Dillinger roaring back to life.

From the moment the set kicks in, one thing hits you immediately: this music has barely aged a day.

More than twenty-five years later, these songs still sound ridiculously violent, technical, and precise. At any given second, everything feels like it’s about to completely fall apart, and yet somehow, every single piece lands exactly where it should. That’s probably where Dillinger’s magic still lies: making everything feel like a never-ending train wreck while the whole machine is actually running with surgical precision.

The setlist digs deep into Calculating Infinity and Under the Running Board, and let’s just say nobody came here to take it easy.

Clip the Apex… Accept Instruction, 43% Burnt, Variations on a Cocktail Dress, The Running Board… the songs keep coming like one punch after another. There’s barely enough time to catch your breath between blows: Dillinger plays fast, loud, and with a frankly insane amount of energy for a set packed with songs that, in some cases, are pushing thirty.

Parce qu’ensuite, évidemment, il y a The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Et autant oublier immédiatement toute notion de calme.

Près de dix ans après la fin du groupe, les pionniers du mathcore sont revenus célébrer Calculating Infinity, leur monument de 1999, avec Dimitri Minakakis de nouveau au micro. À ses côtés, Ben Weinman, Liam Wilson, James Love et Billy Rymer donnent vie à cette version de Dillinger tournée vers ses premières années.

Dès le début du set, une chose frappe : cette musique n’a quasiment pas vieilli.

Plus de vingt-cinq ans après leur sortie, ces morceaux restent aussi absurdes de violence, de technicité et de précision. Tout paraît sur le point de s’écrouler à chaque seconde et pourtant, tout tombe exactement là où il faut. C’est probablement là que réside encore toute la magie de Dillinger : donner l’impression d’un accident permanent alors que la machine est réglée au millimètre.

La setlist plonge généreusement dans Calculating Infinity et Under the Running Board, et autant dire qu’on n’est pas venus pour se reposer.

Pas vraiment le temps de reprendre son souffle entre deux salves : Dillinger joue vite, fort et avec une énergie assez hallucinante pour un répertoire composé de titres qui ont, pour certains, presque trente ans.

And then there are the lights.

The strobes ride along with this nonstop assault, at times turning the stage into a rapid-fire sequence of almost subliminal images. Silhouettes flash in and out of sight, bodies thrash around, and the music takes care of the rest. It’s aggressive, deliberately uncomfortable, and perfectly in sync with the noise blasting through the speakers.

But underneath all that apparent chaos, the precision is absolutely ruthless.

And that might be the most impressive thing about Dillinger in 2026. You could forgive a reunion for leaning on nostalgia, dusting off the old songs and letting the crowd do the heavy lifting. That’s not what this feels like. The Dillinger Escape Plan tears through this material like they still have something to prove.

Having Dimitri Minakakis back on vocals makes this run even more special. This isn’t just about playing Calculating Infinity again: this lineup takes us straight back to the band’s roots, to an era when Dillinger were helping tear up the rulebook for hardcore and extreme metal.

The show might feel short to some, especially with this kind of intensity. But it’s hard to feel shortchanged when every single minute seems designed to run you over.

The night before, Hellfest got the same setlist. Tonight, it’s Élysée Montmartre that gets put through the wringer.

And ultimately, that might be the best compliment you can pay The Dillinger Escape Plan in 2026: the chaos still fucking works.

The years have passed. The band broke up, got back together, and everyone’s inevitably got a few more miles on the clock.

Calculating Infinity, on the other hand, still hasn’t learned how to behave.

And thank fuck for that.

Et puis il y a les lumières.

Les stroboscopes accompagnent cette décharge permanente jusqu’à transformer par moments la scène en succession d’images presque subliminales. Des silhouettes apparaissent, disparaissent, les corps s’agitent et la musique fait le reste. C’est agressif, volontairement inconfortable et parfaitement raccord avec ce qui sort des enceintes.

Mais derrière le bordel apparent, la précision reste redoutable.

C’est peut-être ce qui impressionne le plus en 2026. On pourrait pardonner à une reformation de jouer sur la nostalgie, de ressortir les vieux morceaux et de laisser le public faire le reste. Ce n’est absolument pas l’impression laissée ici. The Dillinger Escape Plan joue ce répertoire comme s’il avait encore quelque chose à prouver.

Et retrouver Dimitri Minakakis au chant donne forcément une saveur particulière à cette tournée. Il ne s’agit pas simplement de rejouer Calculating Infinity : cette configuration ramène directement aux racines du groupe et à cette période où Dillinger participait à redéfinir les contours du hardcore et du metal extrême.

Le concert pourra sembler court à certains, surtout devant une telle intensité. Mais difficile de parler de frustration lorsque chaque minute semble avoir été pensée pour nous rouler dessus.

La veille, le Hellfest avait eu droit à cette même setlist. Ce soir, c’est l’Élysée Montmartre qui en ressort essoré.

Et finalement, c’est probablement le plus beau compliment que l’on puisse faire à The Dillinger Escape Plan en 2026 : le chaos fonctionne toujours.

Les années ont passé, le groupe s’est séparé, reformé, les corps ont forcément quelques kilomètres supplémentaires au compteur.

Calculating Infinity, lui, n’a toujours pas appris à se tenir tranquille.

Et putain, tant mieux.

From The Prestige, tasked with lighting the first fuse, to The Dillinger Escape Plan, reminding everyone why Calculating Infinity remains a landmark more than twenty-five years after its release, the night proved one thing above all: this music hasn’t lost an ounce of its ability to wreak havoc.

There’s no need to overdo it or turn this comeback into some massive nostalgia trip. The songs are still completely unhinged, the musicians still play them like they’re looking for a fight, and by the end of it, a Paris crowd has been put through the meat grinder.

The Dillinger Escape Plan may have come back with one eye on the rearview mirror, but for a single second, this never felt like watching a band stuck in the past.

And considering what these songs can still do to a room in 2026, we sure as hell aren’t going to ask them to tone it down.

Pas besoin d’en faire des tonnes ni de transformer ce retour en grande célébration nostalgique : des morceaux toujours aussi dingues, des musiciens qui les jouent avec la même envie d’en découdre et une salle parisienne passée à la moulinette.

The Dillinger Escape Plan est peut-être revenu regarder dans le rétroviseur, mais ce soir-là, personne n’avait vraiment l’impression d’assister à un concert du passé.

Et vu l’état dans lequel ce répertoire est encore capable de mettre une salle en 2026, on ne va certainement pas lui demander de se calmer.
