A Night Where Everyone Left It All on Stage

Some shows are just a good time. And then there are the ones you walk out of completely drained, your voice shot, your legs shaking, and a grin you just can’t wipe off your face.

This was definitely the second kind. Four bands, four distinct identities, a pit in full meltdown, and energy that never once dipped. The kind of night that reminds you exactly why you fell in love with live music in the first place.

Une soirée où tout le monde a tout donné

Il y a des concerts où tu passes un bon moment. Et il y a ceux où tu ressors vidé, la gorge explosée, les jambes tremblantes et le sourire impossible à décrocher.

Cette date-là fait clairement partie de la deuxième catégorie. Quatre groupes, quatre identités bien marquées, une fosse en fusion, et une énergie qui n’a jamais redescendu. Vraiment le genre de soirée qui te rappelle pourquoi tu aimes autant la musique live.

Life Cycles – Raw Energy

When Life Cycles hit the stage, the room isn’t fully packed yet. But honestly? It doesn’t matter one bit. From the first blows of “Frozen in Hell”, it’s clear nobody’s here to just go through the motions. It starts hard, sharp, straight to the point.

“Haunting Spirit” kicks things into gear fast, instant two-step, the vocalist getting the crowd shouting in rhythm, and I catch myself already fully locked in. It grooves hard. It’s intense but controlled, and the connection with the crowd feels effortless.

On “Death From Above”, the frontman proves he knows exactly how to rally a room. He talks, he hypes, he grins, and it works.

Then comes “The End Still Awaits”, and he tells us they’re from San Antonio, Texas, and that this is their very first time in Paris. He thanks the crowd for showing up, and it genuinely feels heartfelt. Right after that, the breakdowns hit like sledgehammers. Live, they land even harder.

From that point on, the engine’s running full throttle.

“Serpent’s Kiss” sets off a massive circle pit. “Sanctioned Territory” gives them a chance to thank us for the energy, and judging by what’s happening in the pit, the appreciation definitely goes both ways. To close it out, “Portal to the Unknown”, with a nod to “Domination” by Pantera as the outro.

“Are you ready for the last one?!” The room erupts. “Split this room!!!” And the pit parts instantly.

I wasn’t expecting it, but this was a huge standout for me. No question about it.

Life Cycles – L’énergie brute

Quand Life Cycles monte sur scène, la salle n’est pas encore totalement remplie. Mais honnêtement ? Ça ne change absolument rien. Dès “Frozen in Hell”, on comprend que personne n’est là pour faire de la figuration. Ça démarre fort, sec, efficace.

Très vite, “Haunting Spirit” enclenche les hostilités : 2-step direct, le chanteur nous fait hurler en rythme, et je me surprends à être déjà complètement embarqué·e. Ça groove vraiment bien, c’est nerveux mais maîtrisé, et la connexion avec le public se fait naturellement.

Sur “Death From Above”, le frontman confirme qu’il sait fédérer. Il parle, il harangue, il sourit,  et ça marche.

Puis arrive “The End Still Awaits”, et il nous glisse qu’ils viennent de San Antonio, Texas, et que c’est leur toute première fois à Paris. Il remercie le public d’être là, et franchement, ça sonne sincère. Derrière, les breaks tombent comme des coups de massue. En live, c’est encore plus efficace.

À partir de là, la machine est lancée.

“Serpent’s Kiss” déclenche un circle pit massif. “Sanctioned Territory” est l’occasion de nous remercier pour notre énergie, et vu ce qui se passe dans la fosse, c’est mérité dans les deux sens. Pour clôturer, “Portal to the Unknown”, avec un clin d’œil à Domination de Pantera en outro.

“Vous êtes prêts pour la dernière ?!” La salle hurle. “Split this room !!!” Et la fosse s’ouvre instantanément.

Je ne m’y attendais pas, mais énorme coup de cœur. Vraiment.

Distant – The Hit I Was Waiting For

I came for Distant, so yeah, I’d been waiting for this set all night.

The second “Desolation” starts, an inhuman, abyss-level scream rips through the venue. And right then I’m thinking: yep, this is it. I’m a fan, and this set is about to prove exactly why.

“Nothing Left to Hate” just reinforces how much I love this band. At the end of the song, they thank the crowd in French. It might seem small, but it adds that extra layer of connection. During “Oedipism,” the vocalist takes a moment to have the crowd cheer for Life Cycles on their first Paris show, then for the bands still to come. By now, the room is packed. Circle pit? Instant.

And because he’s clearly not done pushing us, he calls for a wall of death. The floor doesn’t hesitate. “Fleshweaver” is brutally efficient, no wasted movement, no wasted energy. “Hellmøuth” fires up the two-step again before detonating into another wall of death. And “Loveless Suffering”… I freaking love that song. Live, it hits even harder, heavier, meaner, more emotional. On “Born of Blood”, they have the entire crowd sit down before launching back into the track with a perfectly timed jump. One of those collective moments that gives you chills.

I won’t lie: I had an absolute blast. Distant just doesn’t miss for me. And that night was no exception.

Distant – La claque attendue

Je suis venue pour Distant, donc forcément, j’attendais ce moment avec impatience.

Dès les premières secondes de “Desolation”, un scream abyssal déchire la salle. Et là, je me dis : oui, on y est. Je suis fan, et ce set ne va clairement pas me faire mentir.

“Nothing Left to Hate” confirme tout l’amour que j’ai pour eux. À la fin du morceau, ils nous remercient en français. Ça peut paraître anodin, mais ça crée un petit truc en plus. Sur “Oedipism”, le chanteur prend le temps de faire applaudir Life Cycles pour leur première parisienne, puis les groupes à venir. La salle s’est entre-temps bien remplie. Circle pit ? Immédiat.

Et comme il en veut toujours plus, il réclame un wall of death. La fosse répond sans hésiter. “Fleshweaver” est d’une efficacité redoutable. “Hellmøuth” relance les 2-step avant d’exploser en wall of death. Et “Loveless Suffering”… j’adore cette putain de chanson, et en live elle frappe encore plus fort. Sur “Born of Blood”, ils nous font tous nous asseoir avant de relancer le morceau avec un jump parfaitement synchronisé. Ce genre de moment collectif qui te donne la chair de poule.

Je ne vais pas mentir : j’ai pris un pied monumental. Avec Distant, je ne suis jamais déçue. Et ce soir-là ne fait pas exception.

Revocation – Technical Mastery, No Apologies

With Revocation, we step into a different dimension. More technical. More cerebral. The kind of set where you don’t just feel it, you study it.

“Cronenberged” opens the show and immediately sets the tone: it’s fast. Really fast. But never sloppy. Every note lands exactly where it should. On “Sarcophagi of the Soul,” it almost feels like watching a clinic. The riffs fly, the solos are razor-sharp, surgically tight. It’s impressive in a way that makes you shake your head and laugh a little, like, how are they even doing this live?

“Existence Is Futile” highlights the flip side of that precision: a long pause to retune the guitars before kicking in. That’s the trade-off when you push technicality to the extreme. There’s a brief sound issue toward the end of the track, quickly fixed, and they’re right back on track. Circle pit called during “Diabolical Majesty”? The floor delivers. “Dystopian Vermin” gets introduced as a newer track, and the crowd is fully on board.

Then comes a completely unexpected moment during “Strange and Eternal”, it’s the guitarist’s birthday. The whole venue sings “Happy Birthday”, all the bands come out on stage, cake and candles included. It’s chaotic and wholesome at the same time. And of course, to celebrate properly: a massive circle pit. They close the set with “The Outer Ones” and a brutal wall of death to seal it.

I genuinely admire their technical level. I really do. But if I’m being honest, technique alone isn’t what I chase in music. I’m here for the feeling. I want it to make me laugh, smile, rage, or cry, I don’t care which one. I just need it to hit somewhere deep.

Revocation – La virtuosité assumée

Avec Revocation, on entre dans un autre univers. Plus technique, plus cérébral.

“Cronenberged” ouvre le set et donne le ton : ça joue vite, très vite, mais toujours avec précision. Sur “Sarcophagi of the Soul”, j’ai presque l’impression d’assister à une démonstration. Les riffs fusent, les solos sont chirurgicalement propres.

“Existence Is Futile” met en lumière le revers de cette technicité : longue pause pour réaccorder les guitares. C’est le prix à payer quand on pousse la précision aussi loin. Petit souci de son à la fin du morceau, vite réglé, et ça repart.Circle pit demandé sur “Diabolical Majesty” : la fosse s’exécute. “Dystopian Vermin” est présenté comme une nouveauté, et le public répond présent.

Moment totalement inattendu sur “Strange and Eternal” : c’est l’anniversaire du guitariste. Toute la salle chante “Happy Birthday”, les groupes montent sur scène, gâteau et bougies inclus. Et évidemment, pour célébrer ça dignement : énorme circle pit. Le set se termine sur “The Outer Ones” avec un wall of death bien violent.

Je suis admirative de leur niveau technique, vraiment. Mais je dois être honnête : ce que je cherche dans la musique, ce n’est pas seulement la performance. C’est l’émotion. Qu’elle me fasse rire, sourire, m’énerver ou pleurer. J’ai besoin de ressentir quelque chose de viscéral.

Sylosis – The Full-Blown Headliner Experience

Before they even step on stage, the crowd is already chanting Sylosis. You can feel the tension building, like everyone knows this is about to go off.

“Erase” kicks things open, and just like that, first crowd surfer of the night. On “I Sever”, Josh admits he’s sick, his throat’s wrecked, but he promises he’s giving everything he’s got. “I need your energy!”
Immediate circle pit. No hesitation. “Worship Decay”, featuring Jeremy Cuevas from Life Cycles, is absolutely insane. The chemistry is real, and you can feel it. It’s one of those moments where everything just locks in perfectly. Then comes “Heavy Is the Crown”, and he shouts: “Paris make some fuckin’ noise!! You are totally crazy!” At that point, the floor is pure chaos. Later, they announce they’re about to play a new song, but ask the crowd not to film it. And aside from a few exceptions, people actually respect it. No sea of phones. Just presence. That kind of collective respect is rare, and it honestly makes the moment feel bigger. “Eclipsed” gets fists pumping in unison, everyone yelling along in rhythm. The ending hits hard, and the bass absolutely carries that final stretch. During “Servitude,” there’s a lighter moment, Josh tries to read a sign that says “Josh je t’aime” in French. He admits he doesn’t understand it and forgot his glasses, so he can’t even read it properly. The whole room cracks up. It’s small, but it makes the set feel human.

You can feel the end creeping closer.

“Teras” → circle pit.

“Pariahs” → the atmosphere is electric.

Encore with “Deadwood” → massive wall of death.

“The New Flesh” wraps up the set with one final call for the crowd to scream as loud as physically possible. And they do.

And as if all that wasn’t enough, the night closes out with “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper blasting through the speakers. Completely unexpected. A little absurd. Absolutely perfect.

Sylosis – Le show total

Avant même leur arrivée, le public scande le nom de Sylosis. La tension monte d’un cran.

“Erase” démarre, premier crowd surf de la soirée. Sur “I Sever”, le chanteur avoue être malade, avoir mal à la gorge, mais promet de tout donner. “J’ai besoin de votre énergie !”  circle pit immédiat. “Worship Decay”, avec Jeremy Cuevas de Life Cycles en feat, est absolument insane. L’alchimie fonctionne à fond.

Sur “Heavy Is the Crown”, il hurle : “Paris make some fuckin noise!! You are totally crazy!” La fosse devient incontrôlable.

Puis moment fort : ils annoncent un nouveau morceau, mais demandent au public de ne pas filmer. Et, à quelques exceptions près, la salle joue le jeu. Ce respect collectif fait plaisir à voir.

“Eclipsed” fait lever les poings en rythme, la basse porte littéralement le final. Sur “Servitude”, petit moment drôle : Josh essaie de lire une pancarte “Josh je t’aime” en français, avoue qu’il ne comprend pas et qu’il n’a pas ses lunettes. La salle éclate de rire.

La fin approche.

“Teras” → circle pit.

“Pariahs” → ambiance électrique.

Rappel avec “Deadwood” → wall of death massif.

“The New Flesh” clôture le set avec un appel à hurler aussi fort que possible.

Et comme si tout ça ne suffisait pas, la soirée se termine sur Girls Just Want to Have Fun de Cyndi Lauper. Décalé, drôle, parfait.

Conclusion – What We Really Come For

I came for Distant. I walked away with a massive soft spot for Life Cycles.

My photographer, Guillaume, showed up for Sylosis… and ended up blown away by Revocation.

And that’s the magic of nights like this. You come in with one band circled in your head, one clear reason to be there, and you leave with way more than you expected. A few bruises. No voice. Legs that feel like jelly. But most of all, that rare feeling that you were part of something shared, something loud, raw, and real.

And honestly? We’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Au final, c’est ça la magie : tu viens pour une raison précise, et tu repars avec beaucoup plus que prévu. Des bleus, une extinction de voix… et cette sensation rare d’avoir vécu quelque chose de collectif, de brut, de sincère.

Et franchement ? On en redemande.
