Backstage by the Mill was buzzing with anticipation on September 8. The place was packed to the rafters, sweat already hanging in the air before the lights even went down. Everyone knew it was gonna be a wild night—and nobody was wrong.

Le Backstage by the Mill vibrait d’impatience en ce 8 septembre. La salle était pleine à craquer, la sueur déjà suspendue dans l’air avant même que les lumières s’éteignent. Tout le monde savait qu’on allait vivre une soirée intense, et personne ne s’était trompé.

Lake Malice hit the stage to a storm of cheers and screams. From the first notes of Scatterbrain, it was all energy, no warm-up needed, we were thrown right into the fire. Magic Square hit with instant stank face, groovy and heavy. Ghost kept the bar high, and the singer promised to crank it up even further, a promise delivered as soon as Creepers kicked in. She called the crowd to step closer, one foot forward, then got everyone flipping the bird. Mid-song, she dropped a wall of death and the pit didn’t hesitate for a second.

Nobody Wants To Be You flew by in a blur, and before Eternal December she shared that she’s Italian but has lived in England for the past ten years, then launched into the track. Mitsuko came next, easily my favorite of the night. She called for a circle pit, the crowd went wild, and the guitarist jumped right into the middle of it. With Stop the Party, she stressed how much the song means to them, asking everyone to move, to jump, and the crowd delivered. By the end, the guitarist ditched his axe to pound on a floor tom like a madman. Bloodbath amped things up even more before Blossom closed out the set. She shouted, ‘Make some noise for yourselves!’ thanked the audience over and over, and asked for a group photo with the entire room. Lake Malice left Backstage blazing.

Lake Malice débarque sur scène sous une pluie de cris et d’applaudissements. Dès Scatterbrain, c’est énergique, pas le temps de s’échauffer, on est happés d’entrée de jeu. Sur Magic Square, je prends un stank face direct, ça groove et ça cogne. Ghost garde la barre haute, et la chanteuse annonce qu’on va encore monter d’un cran, promesse tenue dès que démarre Creepers. Elle demande alors au public de se rapprocher de la scène, un pas en avant, puis tout le monde lève les majeurs. En plein milieu du morceau, elle balance un wall of death et la fosse s’exécute sans hésiter.

Nobody Wants To Be You passe à toute vitesse, puis sur Eternal December, elle raconte qu’elle est italienne mais qu’elle vit en Angleterre depuis dix ans, avant de balancer le morceau. Mitsuko arrive, et c’est sûrement ma préférée du set. Elle réclame un circle pit, le public s’emballe et le guitariste se place carrément au milieu du cercle. Sur Stop the Party, elle insiste sur l’importance du titre pour eux et demande à tout le monde de bouger, de jumper, et la salle s’exécute. À la fin, le guitariste lâche sa gratte pour marteler une grosse caisse comme un fou furieux. Bloodbath secoue encore un peu plus la fosse, avant que Blossom ne clôture le set. Elle lance un grand “faites du bruit pour vous-mêmes !” avant de remercier le public plusieurs fois et de demander une photo souvenir avec toute la salle. Lake Malice a laissé le Backstage en feu.

But the best was still to come. Scene Queen’s entrance with BDSM instantly sent the room into chaos. With Pink Push-Up Bra, she screamed ‘Vous êtes prêts??!!!’ and the whole crowd roared back in unison. Finger kicked off with a cheeky ‘Bonjour Paris!’ in French, and she told us how grateful she was to be here for her very first headlining show, then asked if some of the girls came because men were driving them crazy. The room exploded with laughter and raised hands. During Pink Panther, she threw out endless ‘Thank you so much, you rock, I love you!’ and when that iconic little theme hit, the crowd absolutely lost it, screaming and singing along, the vibe unreal.

With Platform Shoes, she got serious for a moment: be proud of who you are, trans rights are human rights, and explained that her music is her way of fighting misogyny and transphobia. Then she dropped a new track that had everyone dancing. On Pink G-String, she told the whole place to shake their asses, and the energy shot through the roof. Before MILF, she admitted she never thought she’d end up touring when she first started making music, shared her gratitude, and dedicated the track to hot moms, to milfs, cue wild cheers from the pit.

Then came Hot Singles in Your Area, where she talked about growing up in a small, super conservative town and how she wanted her music to build an anti-conservative cult of her own. She brought fans up on stage, made sure everyone respected their pronouns, and had us chant along with affirmations about the safe space she wants to create. She wrapped it up with a giant group hug for the four of them. Before Pink Hotel, she joked that she loves Paris, but that the city had ‘stolen her best friend,’ which sent the room into laughter all over again.

Mais le meilleur était encore à venir. L’entrée de Scene Queen sur BDSM plonge immédiatement la salle dans la folie. Sur Pink Push-Up Bra, elle hurle “Vous êtes prêts ??!!!” et tout le monde répond en chœur. Finger démarre avec un “Bonjour Paris !” en français, et elle se dit reconnaissante d’être ici pour sa première fois en tête d’affiche, avant de demander si certaines filles sont venues parce que les hommes les rendent folles. La salle éclate de rires et de mains levées. Sur Pink Panther, elle balance des “Thank you so much, you rock, I love you !”, puis, dès la petite musique iconique, la foule hurle et chante, créant une ambiance incroyable.

Avec Platform Shoes, elle lance un discours engagé : soyez fiers de qui vous êtes, trans rights are human rights, et elle explique que c’est pour lutter contre la misogynie et la transphobie qu’elle fait de la musique militante. Elle joue une nouvelle chanson et fait danser tout le monde. Sur Pink G-String, elle demande à la salle de secouer les fesses, ambiance survoltée garantie. Avant MILF, elle confie qu’elle n’aurait jamais imaginé partir en tournée en commençant la musique et se dit reconnaissante, puis dédie le morceau aux hot moms, aux milfs, sous les cris de la fosse.

Arrive Hot Singles in Your Area, où elle raconte qu’elle vient d’une petite ville très conservatrice et qu’elle voulait créer un culte anti-conservateur avec sa musique. Elle fait monter des fans sur scène, insiste pour que chacun respecte les pronoms des personnes invitées, et nous fait répéter des phrases sur le safe space qu’elle veut créer. Elle termine par un hug collectif avec les quatre personnes. Avant Pink Hotel, elle lâche qu’elle aime Paris, mais qu’elle a perdu sa meilleure amie parce que Paris lui a volé, dans un éclat de rire général.

Pink Whitney stood out as one of my personal highlights of the set. She followed it up with Mutual Masturbation, getting the crowd to scream for Lake Malice, for her ‘bimbros,’ her guitarist, and her drummer. The pit went wild as soon as the first ‘shut the fuck up’ dropped. On Barbie & Ken, she spoke about family while fans threw heart signs her way. Spotting it was a fan’s birthday, she wished them a happy one and even tried singing it in French with the audience’s help. The track turned into a duet with her guitarist Daniel, and with the birthday fan themselves.

When Pink Rover hit, she split the room in two and jumped down the middle aisle, high-fiving everyone along the way. Finally, 18+ wrapped up the night in an all-out blast of energy. She screamed a drawn-out, clumsy-but-cute ‘Merciiii Paris!!!’ in French before slipping offstage, leaving the crowd dazed and euphoric.

Puis elle enchaîne avec Mutual Masturbation, en demandant de faire du bruit pour Lake Malice, pour ses “bimbros”, son guitariste et son batteur. Dès les premiers “shut the fuck up”, la fosse exulte. Sur Barbie & Ken, elle parle de famille, le public lui envoie des cœurs avec les doigts. Elle souhaite un joyeux anniversaire à une fan et s’essaie même à le chanter en français, avec l’aide du public. Elle interprète la chanson en duo avec Daniel son guitariste, mais aussi avec la fan dont c’était l’anniversaire.

Sur Pink Rover, elle divise la salle en deux et descend dans le passage pour checker tout le monde. Enfin, 18+ achève le concert dans une explosion d’énergie. Elle hurle un “Merciiii Paris !!!” dans un français maladroit mais adorable, et s’éclipse, laissant la salle en transe.

Walking out of Backstage, my voice was shot and my ears were still ringing. Lake Malice proved themselves an absolute live powerhouse, while Scene Queen turned her show into a true moment of communion, equal parts party and protest. We stumbled out exhausted but happy, certain we’d just lived through one of those nights you never forget.

En sortant du Backstage, j’avais encore la voix cassée et les oreilles qui bourdonnaient. Lake Malice a prouvé qu’ils étaient une bombe en live, et Scene Queen a transformé son concert en un vrai moment de communion, à la fois festif et engagé. On est ressortis lessivés mais heureux, avec la certitude d’avoir vécu une de ces soirées dont on se souvient longtemps.
