Pussy Miel kicks things off with “Don’t Know” and immediately comes out swinging. When the band describes itself as “punky stoner,” it’s hard to think of a better way to sum up what’s happening onstage: it’s rock, it’s got that unmistakable ’90s punk feel, and above all, it hits hard. The stage presence is already undeniable.

Pussy Miel démarre les festivités avec « Don’t Know » et sort immédiatement les griffes. Lorsque le groupe se proclame « punky stoner », difficile de mieux résumer ce qui se passe sur scène : c’est rock, punk très 90s, et surtout terriblement efficace. La présence scénique est déjà là.

“We’re Pussy Miel! Who’s here with their girlfriends?” Third song in, “Friendship,” and the vibe is indeed pretty damn cool among friends. Then comes a “gentle sound meditation,” because apparently, it’s important to “relax your ass chakra.” The calm doesn’t last long: the drums absolutely rip, and the crowd immediately locks into the beat on “Délivrée.”

The band then takes a moment to say how happy they are to be women up onstage, reminding the crowd that “we’re stronger than the fascism that’s on the rise.” The sound gets grungier as the bass takes the lead. The girls are clearly having a blast onstage, and honestly, it’s just great to watch.

« On est Pussy Miel ! Qui est là entre copines ? » Troisième morceau, « Friendship », et l’ambiance est effectivement plutôt cool entre copines. S’ensuit une « douce méditation sonore », parce qu’il est important, paraît-il, de « se détendre le chakra du cul ». Une douceur de courte durée : la batterie déboîte et le public suit immédiatement son rythme sur « Délivrée ».

Le groupe se dit ensuite heureux d’être composé de femmes sur scène et rappelle qu’« on est plus fortes que le fascisme qui grandit ». Les sonorités se font plus grungy, tandis que la basse prend les commandes. Les filles s’éclatent sur scène et, tout simplement, c’est beau à voir.

With their cover of “Dancing With Myself,” the honey suddenly gets a whole lot less sweet. It’s danceable, but it’s also violent, and the pit starts kicking off inside La Maroquinerie. Before “Wasted,” Pussy Miel asks if anyone in the room has just been through a breakup. The song turns into one hell of a release, with a seriously cool indie-rock lead guitar on the second verse.

Then the drums basically call for a fight on “Don’t Change Me.” The opening is lower and heavier, leaning hard into stoner rock before bursting into a fast, straight-up punk chorus. The tempo changes are dirty in all the right ways.

For the final song, Pussy Miel heads straight into the crowd, which forms a circle around the band. The bassist even ends up crowdsurfing,  a properly rowdy ending to forty minutes that flew by way too fast.

Avec la reprise de « Dancing With Myself », le miel devient nettement moins doux. C’est dansant, mais aussi violent, et les pogos commencent à agiter La Maroquinerie. Avant « Wasted », Pussy Miel demande qui vient de vivre une rupture. Le morceau devient un joli défouloir, avec une guitare lead très indie rock sur le deuxième couplet.

Puis la batterie démarre la bagarre sur « Don’t Change Me ». Le début, plus grave, tire franchement vers le stoner rock avant de partir sur un refrain punk rapide. Les changements de tempo sont sales juste comme il faut.

Pour le dernier morceau, Pussy Miel descend directement dans la foule, qui forme un cercle autour des musiciennes. La bassiste finit même en crowdsurf : un final bien rowdy pour conclure quarante minutes qui auront filé à toute vitesse.

Pussy Miel definitely lives up to the name: a little honey, a whole lot of claws. And just like good honey, or drugs,  it gets addictive fast. One hell of a slap in the face, and we already can’t wait to catch them again.

Pussy Miel porte finalement plutôt bien son nom : un peu de miel, beaucoup de griffes. Et comme le bon miel,  ou la drogue,  ça devient vite addictif. Une claque, avec déjà l’envie de les voir à nouveau.
