On this February 28th, 2025, the Accor Arena has the honor of hosting Cyndi Lauper’s final concert in France. The 71-year-old singer has officially announced that her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour will be her last.

A legendary artist, closing a remarkable chapter. So yeah, emotions will be running high tonight, but that’s not all. We all know Cyndi is a force of nature, and this isn’t just going to be a concert.

It’s a full-on spectacle, a fashion show, and a rollercoaster of feelings. As a DJ set warms up the crowd, it’s clear that the audience skews older, but not exclusively. The vibe is chill, everyone is here to soak up every second of this moment.

Vertical screens frame the stage, and as Blondie’s One Way or Another fades out, the lights dim. A retrospective video plays, setting the tone. Then, as rainbow confetti rains down, the queen of the night makes her entrance, bold as ever, kicking things off with She Bop.

En ce 28 février 2025, l’Accor Arena a le privilège d’accueillir le dernier concert français de Cyndi Lauper. En effet, la chanteuse de 71 ans a décidé que ce Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour sera sa dernière tournée. Clap de fin pour une artiste qui a marqué une époque.

Une soirée qui promet d’être riche en émotions donc, mais pas seulement. On connaît le phénomène depuis tout ce temps, et on sait que l’on va assister à la fois à un véritable show, un défilé de mode et toutes sortes d’émotions.

Alors que la salle est chauffée par un DJ set en guise de première partie, on constate que le public est majoritairement âgé, mais pas uniquement. L’atmosphère est bon enfant, et tout le monde est là pour profiter intensément du moment.

De nombreux écrans verticaux habillent la scène, et alors que One Way or Another de Blondie se termine, les lumières s’éteignent, laissant place à une vidéo rétrospective. Des confettis arc-en-ciel accompagnent ensuite l’entrée de la reine de la soirée, sur l’audacieux She Bop.

Backed by seven musicians (four women, three men, all dressed in black and white), she stuns the crowd with an unexpected flute solo (yes, really!) before launching into a cover of Prince’s When You Were Mine. And even though she’s under the weather, she apologizes for it several times throughout the night, her voice is still powerful enough to give us chills.

She throws in a few words of French, and of course, a Cyndi Lauper show wouldn’t be complete without some serious fashion moments. Wild outfits, over-the-top wigs… with just a touch of understated elegance here and there.

One standout cover of the night? Funnel of Love, a tribute to rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Wanda Jackson. Lauper reminds us that she started out singing rockabilly in her first band before making it big as a solo artist at 30.

Accompagnée par sept musiciens (quatre femmes et trois hommes, toutes et tous en tenue bicolore noir et blanc), elle nous offre un surprenant solo de flûte (oui, oui !) avant d’enchaîner sur une reprise de Prince, When You Were Mine. Et bien qu’elle soit malade, elle s’en excusera d’ailleurs plusieurs fois dans la soirée, sa voix est bien présente et nous donnera des frissons tout au long de cette magnifique nuit.

Quelques mots en français, et forcément, qui dit concert de Cyndi Lauper dit défilé de mode. Entre tenues et perruques extravagantes, un brin de sobriété se glisse parfois.

Une autre reprise marque les esprits ce soir-là : Funnel of Love, en hommage à son interprète Wanda Jackson, pionnière du rock’n’roll. Lauper rappellera qu’elle aussi chantait du rockabilly dans son premier groupe, avant de percer en solo à l’âge de 30 ans.

Now, fair warning: if you don’t speak at least a little English, you might struggle to keep up with her long, very long, maybe even too long, monologues. She apologizes more than once for not knowing much French, but honestly, she could say anything and still have us hooked. Between heartfelt feminist speeches and emotional thank-yous, Queen Cyndi gets visibly moved, even shedding a few tears.

Back to the music: the sound is top-notch, the band is flawless, and Lauper’s iconic voice soars. She takes us through a range of moods, from a haunting a cappella rendition of Sally’s Pigeons to high-energy rock moments like Money Changes Everything. The crowd is into it the whole way through, but let’s be real, everyone’s waiting for the big hits to really lose themselves. And when Time After Time starts? Pure magic.

For the encore, Lauper takes things up a notch, wading through the crowd to a second, smaller stage in the middle of the arena. There, surrounded by fans (and literal fans, because drama!), she delivers Shine and an ethereal rendition of True Colors. The moment is breathtaking. A massive rainbow scarf floats above the audience, it’s simple, it’s powerful… it’s perfect.

We even get a little taste of The World Is Stone, the English adaptation of a song from Starmania.

Il faut cependant parler ou au moins comprendre un minimum l’anglais pour ne pas s’ennuyer lors des longs, très longs, voire trop longs ,  discours de la chanteuse. Elle s’excusera d’ailleurs plusieurs fois de ne parler que quelques mots de français. On lui pardonne tout au vu de son capital sympathie. Entre discours féministes et remerciements pour cette partie de sa vie, Queen Cyndi se laissera submerger par l’émotion et versera quelques larmes.

Pour en revenir à la musique, le son est bon, les musiciens parfaits, et la voix magique de Lauper prend toute son ampleur. Entre une performance a cappella (Sally’s Pigeons) et des morceaux plus rock (Money Changes Everything), le public est réceptif tout du long, même si l’on sent qu’il attend les tubes pour se lâcher complètement. Quel bonheur d’entendre le magnifique Time After Time en live !

En guise de rappel, Madame Lauper se paie le luxe d’arpenter la foule afin de rejoindre une seconde scène au milieu de l’Arena. Seule sur cette mini-scène et encerclée de ventilateurs, elle interprète Shine et le classique True Colors, plongeant le public dans un moment suspendu et féerique. Un gigantesque foulard arc-en-ciel flotte dans les airs : c’est simple, efficace… Magique.

On aura même droit à un bout de The World Is Stone, adaptation anglaise d’une chanson de Starmania.

As the night winds down, there’s only one way to end it: Girls Just Want to Have Fun. And with that, the entire arena is on its feet, going absolutely wild! Young and old, everyone is united, and it’s a beautiful thing to witness.

What a privilege for those lucky enough to be here for her final French show and this farewell European tour. Hats off, and thank you for everything, Cyndi.

La soirée touche à sa fin et s’achève tout naturellement sur LE tube de l’artiste, Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Toute l’enceinte de Bercy se lève et se déchaîne enfin totalement ! Jeunes et moins jeunes ne forment plus qu’un, et c’est très beau à voir et à ressentir.
