Cult Leader at Backstage by the Mill

Cult Leader, Stormo and Junon invaded the stage of the Backstage by the Mill in Paris on the 18th of April for a brutal performance. The concert was an explosion of energy, with three bands each from a different corner of the post-metal and hardcore world.

Cult Leader, Stormo et Junon ont envahi la scène du Backstage by the Mill à Paris le 18 avril pour une performance brutale. Le concert était une explosion d’énergie, avec trois groupes venant chacun d’un coin différent du monde du post-métal et du hardcore.

Junon is a post-metal band from Lille (north of France) formed in 2020. Kicking off their set with “Segue I – The final voyage“, they immediately captivated the audience with their heavy, energetic delivery. 

There’s a vengeful headbanging in the pit, and the slower, more melancholy breaks increase the intensity of the screams. The haunting intros grab you by the gut. The stage is packed with effects pedals, and with good reason: 3 guitarists. The set goes from “Out Of Suffering” to “Flood Preachers” (my personal favorite), and the crowd goes wild. Their performance, despite a less than full house, was intense and full of passion, with Arnaud, the singer, even diving into the crowd and almost throwing himself into my arms. It delivered some heavy punches during “Another Bar To Your Cage“, creating an electric atmosphere. And the set ends with “The Bleeding“.

Junon est un groupe de post metal originaire de Lille (nord), formé en 2020. Ils ont débuté leur set avec le titre “Segue I – The final voyage“, captivant immédiatement le public ils envoient du lourd dès le début et ne ménagent pas leur énergie. 

Ça headbang vénère dans la fosse, les breaks plus lents et mélancoliques accroissent l’intensité des cris. Les intros lancinantes te prennent aux tripes. Sur scène, il y a un paquet de pédales d’effets, et pour cause il y a 3 guitaristes. Le set enchaîne des titres tel que “Out Of Suffering” ou “Flood Preachers” (ma préférée) et le public est déchaîné. Leur performance, malgré une salle pas tout à fait remplie, a été intense et pleine de passion, avec Arnaud, le chanteur, plongeant même dans la foule et venant presque se jeter dans mes bras. Ça envoie des grosses claques dans la gueule lors de “Another Bar To Your Cage“, créant une atmosphère électrique. Et le set se termine par “The Bleeding“.

The Italian post-hardcore band kicks off the set with the track “Valichi“. I admit I don’t really like the vocals, but the singer is a powerhouse, the real Duracell rabbit with undeniable charisma. The drums are hard and the riffs are sharp.

The track “Ho Chi Minh” starts with huge feedback and I’m getting used to the voice, I’m apprehensive about the primal side and the breakdown at the end of this song is really cool. I confess I didn’t know the band before seeing it, I don’t understand the lyrics but the singer sounds very angry 😂.There’s no fighting in the pit, but there’s a fair amount of headbanging. I must admit, however, that the feedback gets on my nerves.
After the final “Lovecult” track, the crowd cheers the band on.

Le groupe italien de post hardcore débute le set avec le titre “Valichi“. J’avoue ne pas vraiment adhérer à la voix, mais le chanteur est une pile électrique, le vrai lapin de Duracell avec un charisme indéniable. Ça tape dur sur la batterie et les riffs sont acérés.

Le titre “Ho Chi Minh” débute sur des énormes larsen et je m’habitue à la voix. J’appréhende le côté primal et le breakdown de fin de cette chanson est vraiment cool. J’avoue que je ne connaissais pas le groupe avant de le voir. Je ne comprends pas les paroles mais le chanteur semble très en colère 😂. Zéro baston dans la fosse mais ça headbang pas mal. Je dois avouer cependant que les larsens me tapent sur les nerfs. Après le dernier titre “Lovecult“, le public acclame le groupe.

This mathcore band from Salt Lake City kicked off their set with the title track “I am Healed“, with a few minor sound glitches on the vocals on the first track, which were quickly rectified. The room was packed and very enthusiastic. The set builds to a crescendo of violence and brutality, and moshpits too. Songs like “Ataraxis” and “Great I Am “follow on from one another. And the band even offers a two-song encore. 

Once the set is over, the band take the time to chat with the audience and even give a few hugs, closing the evening with a touch of camaraderie.

 Le groupe de mathcore originaire de Salt Lake City, a débuté son set avec le titre “I am Healed“. Des petits couacs de son sur la voix sur le premier titre, très vite rattrapé. La salle est remplie et très enthousiaste. Ça bouge beaucoup en fosse et ça connaît les paroles. Le set enchaîne crescendo sur  la violence et la brutalité, et les moshpits aussi. Les morceaux  s’enchaînent avec des titres comme “Ataraxis” ou “Great I Am“. Et le groupe offre même un rappel de deux chansons. 

Une fois le set terminé, le groupe prend le temps de papoter avec le public et même de faire quelques hugs, clôturant la soirée avec une touche de camaraderie.
