Sunday, August 18, 2024, will be forever etched in our memories as an extraordinary day at Cabaret Vert 2024. Right from our arrival at the festival grounds, Naomi, the photographer, and I had the privilege of using our press passes, which let us skip the entry line unlike our friends who, despite arriving 30 minutes early, were still not on site. Thankfully, they arrived just in time to join us for one of the day’s highlights: the explosive performance by Paleface Swiss.

Le dimanche 18 août 2024 restera gravé dans nos mémoires comme une journée extraordinaire au Cabaret Vert 2024. Dès notre arrivée sur le site du festival, Naomi, la photographe, et moi-même avons eu la chance de profiter de notre pass presse, ce qui nous a permis d’éviter la file d’attente à l’entrée, contrairement à nos amis qui, malgré une avance de 30 minutes, n’étaient pas encore sur le site. Heureusement, ils sont arrivés juste à temps pour vivre avec nous l’un des moments forts de la journée: le concert explosif de Paleface Swiss.

Paleface Swiss kicked off their set with wild intensity from the very first song, “Please End Me.” The band’s energy instantly infected the crowd, who, despite the ever-present mud, launched into a wild mosh pit. Mud was flying, bodies were crashing, and the stage turned into a full-on musical battlefield. During “The Orphan,” the energy remained at its peak, with Zelli, the lead singer, urging the Cabaret Vert 2024 crowd to give even more. His words, “Thank do much in French,  for being here!” resonated with a completely captivated audience.

When Paleface Swiss played “Best Before Death,” Zelli pushed us to scream the final chorus at the top of our lungs. Not satisfied, he made us do it again for an even more powerful result. Cassi, the drummer, added a touch of humor and camaraderie by tossing candy into the Cabaret Vert 2024 pit before heading back to his drums, while Zelli warmly welcomed newcomers into the Paleface “family.” The highlight of the set was the wall of death orchestrated during “The Gallow,” with Zelli crowd-surfing during the break. Guitarist Yannick urged the Cabaret Vert 2024 crowd to “move” during “Deathtouch,” and the pit obeyed—mud up to my waist, and Naomi with mud in her eye. Bassist Tommy finished in spectacular fashion, crowd-surfing while still playing, a moment of pure madness.

The set concluded with “Pain,” as Cassi returned one last time with his candy, followed by a kiss with Zelli that marked the end of an unforgettable show. We were all electrified by this performance, an energy that carried us to the next stage.

Le set de Paleface Swiss a débuté avec une intensité folle dès le premier morceau, “Please End Me”. L’énergie du groupe a instantanément contaminé le public, qui, malgré la boue omniprésente, s’est lancé dans un moshpit déchaîné. La boue volait, les corps se heurtaient, et la scène se transformait en un véritable champ de bataille musical. Sur “The Orphan”, l’énergie était toujours à son apogée, Zelli, le chanteur, exhortant la foule du Cabaret Vert 2024 à donner encore plus. Les paroles “Merci beaucoup en français for being here!” de Zelli ont résonné avec un public totalement conquis. 

Lorsque Paleface Swiss a joué “Best Before Death”, Zelli nous a poussés à crier le final à pleins poumons, insatisfait, il nous a fait recommencer pour un résultat encore plus puissant. Cassi, le batteur, a apporté une touche d’humour et de convivialité en distribuant des bonbons à la fosse du Cabaret Vert 2024, avant de retourner derrière sa batterie, tandis que Zelli accueillait les nouveaux venus dans la “famille” de Paleface avec chaleur. Le point culminant du set a été le wall of death orchestré pour “The Gallow”, avec Zelli porté par la foule pendant le break. Le guitariste Yannick a exhorté le Cabaret Vert 2024 à “bouger” sur “Deathtouch”, et la fosse s’est exécutée, moi avec de la boue jusqu’à la taille et Naomi jusque dans l’œil. Le bassiste Tommy a fini en apothéose porté par la foule, tout en continuant de jouer, un moment de pure folie. 

Le set s’est conclu sur “Pain”, avec un Cassi revenant une dernière fois avec ses bonbons, avant un baiser avec Zelli qui a marqué la fin d’un show inoubliable. Nous étions tous électrisés par cette performance, une énergie qui nous a accompagnés vers la prochaine scène.

Nova Twins took over the day at Cabaret Vert 2024, and from the first track, “Fire & Ice,” the crowd was just as enthusiastic. Their powerful basslines rumbled through our stomachs, and Amy Love didn’t hesitate to get up close with the crowd to share the band’s energy. During “Cleopatra,” hands were in the air, clapping in rhythm with a crowd already spellbound. During “K.M.B,” Georgia South, the bassist, got the crowd clapping along, creating a palpable connection. The band, clearly in love with the French scene, shared their joy of being at Cabaret Vert 2024.

On “Puzzles,” Amy effortlessly got the crowd singing along, and with Georgia, they moved down the center aisle to play face-to-face with the audience. “Losing Sleep” had the crowd jumping, with Georgia getting even closer to the fans to make them jump higher. The bass effects on “Sleep Paralysis” were a treat for the ears, and “Antagonist,” one of the band’s best-known tracks, had the crowd going wild despite a quick technical hiccup (a mic stand issue that saw a technician temporarily serve as the stand). The set ended beautifully with “Choose Your Fighter,” where Georgia literally played in the arms of fans in the front row, wrapping up their festival season with a burst of energy and gratitude.

Nova Twins ont pris le relais de cette journée du Cabaret Vert 2024, et dès le premier titre, “Fire & Ice”, le public s’est montré tout aussi enthousiaste. Leurs basses puissantes faisaient vibrer l’estomac, et Amy Love n’a pas hésité à s’avancer au plus près du public pour partager l’énergie du groupe. Sur “Cleopatra”, les mains étaient en l’air, frappant en rythme avec une foule déjà captivée. Lors de “K.M.B”, Georgia South, la bassiste, a su faire taper des mains le public, créant une connexion palpable. Le groupe, visiblement amoureux de la scène française, a partagé son bonheur d’être au Cabaret Vert 2024.

Sur “Puzzles”, Amy a fait chanter la foule avec une aisance déconcertante, et avec Georgia, elles se sont avancées sur l’allée centrale pour jouer face à face au plus près du public. “Losing Sleep” a fait jumper la foule, Georgia se rapprochant encore plus des fans pour les faire sauter plus haut. Les effets de basse sur “Sleep Paralysis” étaient un régal pour les oreilles, et “Antagonist”, l’un des titres les plus connus du groupe, a déchaîné les corps malgré un problème technique vite résolu (en effet il y a eu un soucis de pied de micro, et un technicien a donc servi de pied le temps du changement) . Le set s’est terminé en beauté avec “Choose Your Fighter”, où Georgia a littéralement joué dans les bras des fans au premier rang, concluant leur saison de festivals avec une explosion d’énergie et de gratitude.

After this double dose of adrenaline, we witnessed a flash wedding within Cabaret Vert 2024, a lighthearted moment that sparked plenty of laughter. We then took the time to enjoy a meal on one of the site’s terraces before embarking on a muddy quest for Paleface Swiss and Nova Twins merch, though our efforts were in vain.

Après cette double dose d’adrénaline, nous avons assisté à un mariage flash au sein du Cabaret Vert 2024, un moment de légèreté qui a provoqué de nombreux éclats de rire. Nous avons ensuite pris le temps de savourer un repas sur l’une des terrasses du site avant de partir à la recherche du merch de Paleface Swiss et Nova Twins, bravant un parcours du combattant boueux, mais sans succès.

The day concluded with a grand finale: Korn. As usual, the pioneers of nu-metal built up the tension by arriving on stage fashionably late, but the wait only amplified the frenzy of an already hyped crowd. The first notes of “Rotting in Vain” triggered a wave of excitement, and Jonathan Davis, the charismatic frontman, appeared in green sweatpants—a clever nod to the festival’s name. A well-played fashion choice!

From the first chords of “Here to Stay,” the Cabaret Vert 2024 crowd literally exploded. Kids joined in on the fun, jumping with wild energy, while Jonathan led the crowd like a conductor, each command executed with impressive fervor. “A.D.I.D.A.S” was greeted with screams at the first note, and that’s when the grids, part of the set design, lowered to reveal projections of eyes and stained glass, adding a visually intense dimension to the experience. The Cabaret Vert 2024 crowd then sang the final chorus in unison under Jonathan’s direction, creating an unforgettable moment of unity.

When the band moved into “Clown,” the guitars screeched for several seconds before launching into the melody, creating unbearable anticipation. The band toyed with the crowd, suddenly stopping during a break, all members standing still with heads bowed, leaving the audience screaming in both frustration and excitement. Then, Jonathan resumed singing a cappella before the instruments came crashing back in a dramatic effect that worked perfectly.

La journée s’est conclue avec un final grandiose: Korn. Comme à leur habitude, les pionniers du nu-metal ont fait monter la tension en arrivant sur scène avec un petit  retard calculé, mais cette attente n’a fait qu’amplifier l’hystérie du public déjà en ébullition. Les premières notes de “Rotting in Vain” ont déclenché une vague d’excitation, et Jonathan Davis, le leader charismatique du groupe, est apparu dans un jogging vert, clin d’œil évident au nom du festival. Un choix vestimentaire bien trouvé!

Dès les premiers accords de “Here to Stay”, la foule du Cabaret Vert 2024 a littéralement explosé. Les enfants se sont joints à la fête, sautant avec une énergie débridée, tandis que Jonathan menait le public comme un chef d’orchestre, chaque commande étant exécutée avec une ferveur impressionnante. “A.D.I.D.A.S” a été accueilli par des hurlements à la première note, et c’est à ce moment que les grilles, qui faisaient partie de la scénographie, se sont abaissées, révélant des projections d’images d’yeux et de vitraux, ajoutant une dimension visuelle intense à l’expérience. Le public du Cabaret Vert 2024 s’est alors mis à chanter en chœur le dernier refrain sous la direction de Jonathan, un moment de communion inoubliable.

Lorsque le groupe a enchaîné avec “Clown”, les guitares ont grincé de longues secondes avant de lancer la mélodie, créant une attente insoutenable. Le groupe a joué avec le public, s’arrêtant soudainement dans un break où tous les membres sont restés statiques, visages baissés, laissant la foule crier de frustration et d’excitation. Puis, Jonathan a repris le chant a cappella avant que les instruments ne reviennent en force, un effet dramatique qui a parfaitement fonctionné.

During “Start the Healing,” the atmosphere became almost surreal, with projections of empty rooms on the grids, followed by strange and disturbing images: wax mannequins, sculpted faces, and other eerie visions, plunging the Cabaret Vert 2024 crowd into Korn’s unique and unsettling world. The rhythmic applause from the audience reinforced this feeling of total immersion in Korn’s universe.

“Good God” then set the stage on fire, with flames and clouds of red smoke projected on the grids, signaling that things were about to reach another level. The drum solo that followed left everyone speechless, with the crowd eventually following the drummer’s  (Ray Lauzier) rhythm, clapping in unison.

The climax of the show was undoubtedly the classic “Blind,” with Jonathan commanding the Cabaret Vert 2024 crowd to “Make some fuckin’ noise,” and the response was immediate: the crowd screamed the lyrics with incredible intensity before frantically jumping to the first notes of “Got the Life.” “Falling Away From Me” marked another peak of collective madness before the band delivered an unexpected mashup of “Coming Down” with Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” with Jonathan involving the crowd in the singing, creating an exceptional moment of shared experience.

The encore was a true tour de force, with the introduction of the KORNemuse (KORNemuse is a play on words between ‘Korn’ and ‘cornemuse,’ which means bagpipes), an iconic moment where the grids lowered once again to project images of smoke and lightning during “Shoots and Ladders.” The mashup of “Twist” with Metallica’s “One” drove the crowd wild before Korn ended in spectacular fashion with “Freak on a Leash.” The terrifying faces spinning on the screen heightened the dramatic tension, and the band gave everything they had for this final song, leaving the Cabaret Vert 2024 crowd completely exhilarated.

Sur “Start the Healing”, l’ambiance est devenue presque surréaliste avec des projections de salles vides sur les grilles, suivies d’images étranges et dérangeantes: mannequins de cire, visages en sculpture, et autres visions glauques, plongeant la foule du Cabaret Vert 2024 dans une atmosphère unique et perturbante. Les applaudissements rythmés du public ont renforcé cette sensation d’immersion totale dans l’univers de Korn.

“Good God” a ensuite embrasé la scène, avec des flammes et des nuages de fumée rouge projetés sur les grilles, signifiant que les choses allaient encore monter d’un cran. Le solo de batterie qui a suivi a laissé tout le monde bouche bée, avec le public finissant par suivre le rythme indiqué par le Ray Lauzier, batteur, tapant en cadence dans leurs mains.

Le clou du spectacle a sans doute été le classique “Blind”, avec Jonathan qui a demandé au public du Cabaret Vert 2024 de “Make some fuckin’ noise”, et la réponse ne s’est pas faite attendre : la foule a hurlé les paroles avec une intensité incroyable, avant de sauter frénétiquement dès les premières notes de “Got the Life”. “Falling Away From Me” a marqué un nouveau pic de folie collective, avant que le groupe ne livre un mashup inattendu de “Coming Down” avec “We Will Rock You” de Queen, Jonathan impliquant le public dans le chant, créant un moment de partage exceptionnel.
