For my very first-ever K-pop concert, I had the honor of covering the first of Blackpink’s two French shows in 2025. And while I expected a gathering of die-hard fans, borderline obsessed, even, I was not ready. The Stade de France was absolutely swarming with hardcore Blinks from every direction. Everyone was fully decked out, buying merch like crazy, and knew the choreo by heart. We’re talking everyone from seven-year-old kids to forty-year-old superfans. It was wild.

While waiting for the show to start, the giant screen played Blackpink music videos on loop. I thought it was kind of odd at first, but apparently, this is standard at K-pop concerts. So be it.

Then it began. The second the lights dimmed, the crowd lost their minds. Shoutout to whoever invented earplugs, my eardrums owe you big time. The opening video was super stylized, shot like an old-school Super 8 film with some serious Tarantino vibes. It set the tone for what was clearly going to be a show told in several acts. And then, finally, the four superstars hit the stage. Total euphoria as they launched into Kill This Love. And it only got crazier with Pink Venom, How You Like That, and Shut Down. People were screaming, singing, dancing, crying, just fully living it. Watching the younger fans get emotional was actually kind of moving.

The sound was decent for a stadium (and I’m not usually a fan of massive venues, so imagine how I felt standing there). The girls were backed by a solid live band, and dancers that changed with each set. We even got the full K-pop spectacle, pyro, trap doors, and surprise stage reveals.

Act II was all about the solo stages: Jisoo performed Earthquake (the English version) and Your Love, while Lisa brought the house down with Thunder and Fxck Up the World, which the crowd sang along to like it was the national anthem.

Pour mon premier concert ever de K-pop, j’ai l’honneur de couvrir le premier des deux concerts français de Blackpink en 2025. Et même si je m’attendais à assister à un rassemblement d’une fanbase dévouée, à la limite de la folie, je n’étais pas prêt. Le Stade de France est envahi par des fans hardcore de part et d’autre. Tout le monde est hyper looké, achète du merch à gogo, connaît les chorégraphies par cœur. Et cela va de la gamine de 7 ans au fan de 40 ans. C’est impressionnant.

En guise d’attente, l’écran géant du SDF balance des clips du groupe. Je trouve ça assez étrange, mais il semblerait que ce soit la norme dans les concerts de K-pop. Soit.

Le concert va commencer. Les fans deviennent hystériques. Merci à celui qui a inventé les boules Quies : mes tympans lui en seront éternellement reconnaissants.

Une vidéo très travaillée, façon film super 8, avec une vibe Quentin Tarantino, nous est proposée comme ouverture. On comprend que le show va s’articuler autour d’une histoire en plusieurs actes. Les quatre superstars arrivent enfin : l’euphorie est à son paroxysme pour le premier titre Kill This Love. Et ce ne sont pas les enchaînements de Pink Venom, How You Like That ou encore Shut Down qui calmeront la foule en délire. Ça hurle, ça chante, ça danse, ça pleure, ça vit quoi. Les kids sont touchants à voir. Le son est correct pour un concert en stade. (Je ne suis pas très fan des grandes salles, alors imaginez me retrouver ici !)

Les filles sont accompagnées d’un groupe qui fait à merveille le taff, ainsi que de danseurs et danseuses selon les tableaux. On a droit à quelques artifices : feux d’artifice, trappes qui font disparaître ou apparaître le groupe.

L’acte 2 sera celui des moments solo : Jisoo interprète Earthquake dans sa version anglaise ainsi que Your Love, tandis que Lisa performe Thunder et Fxck Up the World, repris en chœur par tout le stade.

Between each act, we got those signature videos again, though calling them just “videos” doesn’t do them justice. They were basically short films, super polished and cinematic.

Act III brought all four members back together for a string of bangers like Pretty Savage, Don’t Know What To Do, Stay, and Lovesick Girls. The girls made an effort to speak a bit of French here and there, but mostly stuck to English, which, honestly, is already a stretch for some of them, so props for trying. If there’s one thing to nitpick, it’s the lack of direct interaction with the fans. They did seem genuinely shocked, multiple times, by how loud and hyped the French crowd was.

Despite a fair bit of backtracking, I’ve got to admit: the show was top-tier. It totally holds up. I get why people are so into it now. Yeah, it’s super polished, maybe too polished at times, and sure, it could use more spontaneity, but I was happy to get swept up in the ride.

Act IV was solo time for the two remaining members. Jennie performed two tracks, including Like JENNIE, which had the whole place buzzing. But it was Rosé, okay, I’ll admit it, I totally fell under her spell, who sent the Paris crowd into orbit with three tracks: the stunning Two Years, Toxic Till the End, and the absolutely gorgeous APT., which had every single person on their feet.

By Act V, night had fully fallen over the stadium. Cue the lasers, it was time for Jump, their brand-new single. And wow, it hits hard live. The place instantly turned into a massive open-air club. Then came the final run: Boombayah, the must-have Ddu-Du Ddu-Du, and Forever Young.

You could feel the end of the show coming, but the crowd still wasn’t ready to let go. And just when you thought the encore would start, boom, the Dance Challenge hits. A lucky fan appears on the big screen and has to replicate the choreo for a randomly chosen song. Watching them absolutely nail it, move for move, was seriously impressive. These fans don’t play.

Blackpink returned to the stage one last time for a reprise of Jump, followed by Really, a heartfelt thank-you to the crowd, and finally the big closer: Kick It, performed for the first time on this tour.

Entre chaque acte, on retrouve ces fameuses vidéos, de véritables courts-métrages en réalité.

C’est le moment de retrouver le groupe entier pour l’acte 3, avec des tubes comme Pretty Savage, Don’t Know What To Do, Stay ou encore Lovesick Girls. Les filles essaient de parler en français, mais principalement en anglais, ce qui est déjà un effort puisque les quatre membres ne sont pas forcément toutes à l’aise avec la langue de Shakespeare. On peut leur reprocher de ne pas avoir énormément d’interactions avec leurs fans. Elles semblent même surprises à plusieurs reprises dans la soirée d’avoir un tel accueil du public français.

Malgré les nombreux backtracks, je dois admettre que le show est de très bonne qualité. Ça tient la route et je comprends l’engouement autour du phénomène. Alors certes, c’est travaillé au millimètre et parfois ça manque de spontanéité, mais je me laisse embarquer avec plaisir dans le voyage.

L’acte 4 offre les moments solo des deux dernières membres. Jennie s’offre deux chansons dont un Like JENNIE qui enthousiasme les fans. Mais c’est surtout Rosé , je l’avoue, je suis tombé sous le charme, qui fait vriller le public parisien avec trois titres : les magnifiques Two Years, Toxic Till the End, et le superbe APT. qui fait lever absolument tout le monde.

Pour l’acte 5, la nuit est enfin tombée sur le stade. Les lasers sont de sortie pour le nouveau tube Jump. Imparable en live, le stade se transforme en club géant ! Tout s’enchaîne : Boombayah, évidemment Ddu-Du Ddu-Du, ou encore Forever Young.

On sent que le spectacle touche à sa fin, mais le public n’est toujours pas rassasié. Et alors qu’on attend le rappel, voici venu le Dance Challenge ! Le principe ? Sur l’écran géant apparaît quelqu’un du public qui doit reprendre la chorégraphie du morceau choisi par la régie à ce moment-là. C’est impressionnant de voir les fans danser à merveille, connaître le moindre mouvement des chorés.

Blackpink revient pour jouer à nouveau le dernier single en date, Jump, suivi de Really, d’un long remerciement au public et enfin du final : Kick It, joué pour la première fois sur cette tournée.

Just under 2h30 of non-stop show, and I was completely hooked. I had an absolute blast, and now I can’t wait to go to another K-pop concert. As someone who’s all about big productions and visual spectacles, this one seriously delivered. My eyes (and ears) got the full experience.

Un peu moins de 2h30 de show, dans lequel je me suis laissé happer. J’ai passé un super moment et j’ai hâte de refaire un autre concert de K-pop. Moi qui aime les spectacles et gros shows, j’en ai pris plein les yeux.
