I’ve been listening to Architects since their early days back in 2008. So seeing them play in such massive venues today honestly warms my heart, especially knowing all the struggles they’ve had to face throughout their career. They’ve managed to rise back up every time and come back stronger than ever.

Tonight was no exception, the Adidas Arena was nearly sold out for this long-awaited Paris show, especially since the band had skipped the city on their last tour.”

Architects est un groupe que j’écoute depuis leurs débuts, en 2008. Alors, les voir jouer dans de si grosses salles aujourd’hui, ça fait vraiment chaud au cœur, surtout quand on connaît les épreuves qu’ils ont du traverser durant leur carrière. Ils ont su se relever et revenir toujours plus forts. 

Ce soir ne fait pas exception et la Adidas Arena affiche quasiment complet pour cette date qui était attendue de pieds ferme par le public parisien, le groupe ayant boudé Paris lors de leur dernière tournée.

The show kicked off right on time with House of Protection, a brand-new discovery for me. The clean vocals were really solid, which also gave us a chance to appreciate just how good the sound was in the venue. There were only two of them on stage, yet they managed to fill the space and get the crowd warmed up just right. At one point, the singer even jumped into the pit for half a song, which definitely cranked up the energy. They also brought out a friend on drums while their drummer grabbed a mic and sang alongside the guitarist/vocalist.

Overall, a great discovery for me. Sure, a few songs might have felt a little generic at times, but there’s definitely potential here. One to keep an eye on!

Le show commence pile à l’heure avec House of Protection, une découverte pour ma part. La voix claire est très bonne, ce qui nous permet également d’apprécier la qualité du son de la salle. Ils ne sont que 2 sur scène et pourtant ils arrivent à bien remplir l’espace et à chauffer la salle comme il se doit. Le chanteur se permet même un petit tour dans la fosse au milieu du pit le temps d’une demi chanson. Ils ont également invité un de leurs amis sur la batterie, pendant que le batteur prenait un micro en duo avec le chanteur/guitariste. 

Bonne découverte pour moi, même si certaines chansons sont peut être un peu génériques parfois, c’est un groupe qui a du potentiel. Affaire à suivre !

After a short break with the crowd screaming along to Linkin Park, Wage War stormed the stage with an epic intro and a massive scream that got everyone on the same page. The tone for the night was set right there.

I hadn’t seen Wage War since 2020, and honestly, I wasn’t that into them back then. But it’s clear they’ve leveled up since! The set flowed seamlessly, the clean vocalist was absolutely mind-blowing, and the way the two singers’ voices blended together was just perfect. The crowd was all in, circle pits opened up across the floor, and the energy was undeniable.

The songs hit so much harder live, and I was especially blown away by the clean vocals on Low, the only track I already knew and liked back in the day, but this time it was on a whole different level. It’s such a thrill to see a band grow that much. The singles kept rolling one after another, with nearly the whole crowd singing along. Personally, I’m sold, this is a band I’ll definitely be revisiting with a lot more excitement now.

Après un court entracte où la foule s’égosille sur du Linkin Park, Wage War entre en scène avec une intro épique et un long scream qui met tout le monde d’accord. Le ton est lancé pour le reste de la soirée. 

Je n’avais pas vu Wage War depuis 2020 et n’avait pas trop apprécié à l’époque. Mais force est de constater qu’ils ont pris de la graine depuis ! Les chansons s’enchaînent bien, le chanteur clair est vraiment impressionnant et les voix des deux chanteurs se marient à la perfection. Le public suit, quelques circle pits se forment dans la fosse, visiblement tout le monde semble apprécier, à juste titre.

Les chansons sont vraiment puissantes en live et le chanteur clair m’a bluffée, surtout sur Low, la seule chanson que je connaissais, et que, pour le coup, j’avais beaucoup apprécié déjà à l’époque. Mais là c’est vraiment plusieurs niveaux au dessus. C’est un plaisir de voir un groupe progresser autant. Les singles s’enchaînent et les gens chantent presque tous. Personnellement, je suis conquise et c’est un groupe que je vais réécouter avec plaisir !

With the openers done and the crowd fully warmed up, it was finally time for the night’s main event: Architects!

If Wage War’s entrance was already epic, Architects’ arrival was downright monumental. The stage production was incredible, way beyond what they had at the Zénith last year. A massive black-and-white screen behind them captured each band member in detail, putting everyone in the spotlight. Bright white lights added even more emphasis, though unfortunately, the all-too-familiar red tones crept back in halfway through the show, much to my disappointment.

They kicked things off with Elegy, the opening track from their latest record The Sky, The Earth and All Between, then dove straight into Whiplash, one of the standout singles from the album that instantly had the entire arena on the same wavelength. When When We Were Young from the previous album The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit dropped, the crowd went wild, even though the pit seemed smaller than usual. You could tell most people were there to sing along and soak up the atmosphere. Sam Carter’s screams were sharper and more controlled than ever, it’s easy to see why he’s become one of the benchmark vocalists in the genre. The man can do it all.

Le job de première partie est fait, le public est chaud, maintenant place aux grands attendus de la soirée, Architects ! 

Si le début de Wage War était déjà épique, l’entrée d’Architects est encore plus magistrale. La scénographie est vraiment bien, mieux qu’au zénith l’an dernier. Le grand écran derrière en noir et blanc permet de bien filmer chaque membre du groupe et de tous les mettre en avant. Les lumières claires, très blanches, contribuent à mettre le groupe en avant également.  Malheureusement le rouge habituel des concerts reviendra vers la moitié du concert, à mon grand désespoir. 

En attendant, ils ouvrent avec Elegy, première chanson du dernier album du groupe, The Sky, The Earth and All Between, puis enchaînent avec Whiplash, un des singles phares de l’album, qui, une fois de plus, met tout le monde d’accord. When We Were Young, le single de l’album d’avant, The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit, rends le public fou. Même si je trouve le pit plus petit que d’habitude. On sent que les gens sont là pour chanter et profiter du concert. Les screams de Sam Carter sont de plus en plus maîtrisés. Il est facile de constater pourquoi il est devenu une des références du genre. Il sait tout faire !

That’s pretty much why their latest album left me a little underwhelmed. It’s not bad, but it feels a bit generic, and Architects have set the bar higher in the past. That said, seeing songs like Black Lungs and Curse live makes it clear they were written for arenas. The band is playing in the big leagues now, and it shows. Opening for Metallica seems to have rubbed off on them, which is a good thing, even if old-school fans like me sometimes miss the heavier sound and the more intimate shows. Thankfully, the band hasn’t forgotten its roots, throwing in some older gems like A Match Made in Heaven, Gravedigger, and even Red Hypergiant! That was a really nice surprise, I honestly didn’t expect them to go further back than the last couple of records. The mix of songs from across their catalog worked brilliantly, winning over both longtime fans and the newer crowd. Even though they only played two tracks off the previous album, When We Were Young and Deep Fake, the setlist felt well-rounded. Special mention goes to Brain Dead, featuring the guys from House of Protection, which gave the track an extra punch.

Meteor was magical, closing with the crowd carrying on the chant long after the band stopped playing. That flowed right into Everything Ends, where the whole arena lit up their lighters, creating a nostalgic, almost fairy-tale atmosphere for a moment. But the calm didn’t last, Royal Beggars came crashing in, and as always, it brought everyone together. It’s one of my all-time favorites, so I was thrilled they didn’t leave it out. Even nearly a decade after Tom Searle’s passing, his presence is still felt, the “T//S” still flashes across the screens, and the short snippet of Gone With the Wind always hits hard. Sure, it’s a little frustrating not to hear the full song, but it’s understandable why it would be difficult for them to play it in its entirety. A few minutes are enough to bring tears, remember Tom, and then move forward with Doomsday (which still makes me cry every single time) and Black Hole to close out what was truly a memorable show.

C’est un peu la raison pour laquelle le dernier album m’a un peu déçue. Il n’est pas mauvais, mais un peu générique et Architects nous ont habitués à mieux par le passé. Cela dit, on comprends en voyant les nouvelles chansons telles que Black Lungs ou Curse, qu’on a affaire à des sons écrits pour les arenas. Maintenant, ils jouent dans la cours des grands, et ça se voit ! Visiblement faire la première partie de Metallica les a bien influencés, ce qui est plutôt positif, même si les vieux de la vieille comme moi peuvent regretter les sons plus violents et les concerts plus intimistes. Heureusement, le groupe n’oublie pas d’où il vient, et nous sort quand même quelques « anciens » titres comme A Match Made in Heaven, Gravedigger et même Red Hypergiant ! Bonne surprise pour moi, je ne m’attendais pas à d’autres sons que les 2 ou 3 derniers albums. Mais le mélange de tous les albums est bien vu, et conquis tous les fans, les nouveaux comme les anciens. Même s’ils n’auront joué que deux chansons de l’album précédent, When We Were Young et Deep Fake. Mention spéciale pour Brain Dead, en feat avec les 2 gars de House of Protection, ce qui donne encore plus de puissance à la chanson. 

Meteor est magique, et se termine avec le public qui continue les chœurs de la chanson. Puis s’enchaîne Everything Ends, toute la salle sort son briquet comme au bon vieux temps et cela donne une atmosphère un peu féerique le temps d’une chanson. Mais cela ne dure pas, avec Royal Beggers qui, comme toujours, met tout le monde d’accord. C’est une de mes chansons préférées alors cela fait vraiment plaisir de voir qu’ils n’oublient pas leurs anciennes chansons, même s’il est difficile pour eux d’en jouer certaines, depuis la mort de Tom Searle il y a bientôt 10 ans. Mais il est toujours présent, preuve en est du T//S qui s’affiche toujours sur l’écran et du petit snippet de Gone With the Wind qui fait toujours plaisir; même s’il est un peu frustrant de ne pas entendre la chanson en entier. Il est compréhensible que ce soit difficile pour eux de la jouer, donc on se contente de quelques minutes, on apprécie; verse une larme en pensant à Tom, et on passe à la suite avec Doomsday (qui me fait pleurer à chaque fois) et Blackhole pour terminer ce concert mémorable.

Of course, no unforgettable show is complete without an encore. Architects closed the night with Seeing Red and the absolutely crushing Animals, sending the crowd into a frenzy one last time before the lights went down.

In the end, I came away pretty convinced by the new songs, even if they’re clearly built to be experienced live in an arena rather than quietly through headphones at home. For that, we’ll always have masterpieces like Holy Hell and For Those That Wish to Exist. But what truly stands out is how Architects have managed to rise above the loss of their guitarist and turn their grief into a strength that has carried them to where they are today. And honestly, that demands nothing but respect.

This show proved to me that, despite the disappointment of the latest album, Architects are, and will remain, my favorite band for a long time to come.

Mais bien sûr pas de concert mémorable sans rappel, et le groupe enchaîne Seeing Red et la génialissime Animals, qui verront le public tout lâcher et se transformer en furie le temps des deux dernières chansons. 

Finalement, je suis plutôt convaincue par les nouvelles chansons, bien qu’elles soient clairement plus faites pour être écoutées live dans une arena que tranquille dans son salon avec des écouteurs. Pour cela, on retournera écouter les magnifiques Holy Hell et For Those That Wish To Exist. En attendant, Architects a su se relever de la mort de leur guitariste et faire de leur deuil une force qui les a amenés là aujourd’hui, et ça, vraiment, ça force le respect. 

Ce concert m’aura prouvé que, malgré la déception du dernier album, Architects est et restera mon groupe préféré pour encore longtemps.

Even if their latest album may divide opinions, the bond between the band and their fans remains unshakable, and that’s what really matters: passion, connection, and emotion. Architects continue to write their story with power and sincerity, and this concert was the clearest proof of that.

Ce concert à l’Adidas Arena restera gravé comme un moment fort, à la fois puissant et émouvant. Architects ont prouvé une fois de plus qu’ils ont su transformer les épreuves en une force incroyable, les propulsant aujourd’hui parmi les géants de la scène metal moderne. Entre l’énergie brute de Wage War, la fraîcheur de House of Protection et la maîtrise scénique d’Architects, la soirée a offert un parfait mélange de découvertes et de moments inoubliables.

Malgré un dernier album qui peut diviser, la communion entre le groupe et son public reste intacte, et c’est bien là l’essentiel : la passion, le partage et l’émotion. Architects continuent d’écrire leur histoire avec puissance et sincérité, et ce concert en est la plus belle preuve.
