The evening kicked off with Parisian punk rock band Hogwash. They kicked off their set with “We Have to Go Back”. A little guitar strap trouble for Rafik didn’t faze the band, who carried on without a hitch. The room quickly filled up, and the contagious energy of Skud, the singer with a smile grafted onto his face and an easy grin, put everyone in a good mood. Among the songs played were “Russian Standard of Care” and “The Crying Waitress”. They closed with “Safety Buzz”, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their last EP, and were delighted to welcome back their Parisian audience.

La soirée a débuté avec Hogwash, un groupe parisien de punk rock. Ils ont lancé leur set avec le titre « We Have to Go Back ». Un petit souci de lanière de guitare pour Rafik n’a pas perturbé le groupe, qui a continué sans faillir. La salle s’est rapidement remplie, et l’énergie contagieuse de Skud, le chanteur qui a le sourire greffé au visage et la grimace facile, a mis tout le monde de bonne humeur. Next up were The Dead Krazukies from Hossegor. They opened with “The Fallen and The Ferryman”, immediately getting the audience in the mood. Singer Maider made her mark with the dedication of “#allaboutme”, and launched into a scathing dig, dedicating the song to “bitchy instagrammers”. This remark raised eyebrows and provoked mixed reactions, somewhat eroding the spirit of sisterhood expected in the punk rock community, especially in a band led by a woman. 

Despite a unique but repetitive vocal imprint, tracks like “The Mindfucker” were well received musically. Throughout the set, the band didn’t hesitate to launch incisive jokes at the Parisians – it seems to be their sense of humor. Julien, the bassist, with his “more apéro on stage” sign on the back of his bass, provoked contrasting reactions, some seeing it as an ironic retort to the “more women on stage” movement. Although the gesture was intended to make people smile, it nonetheless offended some spectators who were sensitive to the cause of parity in the music world. . They ended their set with “This is Not The End”. The Dead Krazukies‘ performance was a mix of verbal provocation and incisive punk rock, leaving a lasting impression on all present.

Ensuite, ce fut au tour de The Dead Krazukies, originaires de Hossegor. Ils ont commencé avec « The Fallen and The Ferryman », mettant immédiatement le public dans l’ambiance. La chanteuse Maider a marqué les esprits en dédicaçant «#allaboutme », elle a lancé une pique acerbe en dédiant la chanson aux «connasses d’instagrammeuses ». Cette remarque a fait sourciller et a suscité des réactions mitigées, érodant quelque peu l’esprit de sororité attendu dans la communauté punk rock surtout dans un groupe mené par une femme. 

Malgré une empreinte vocale unique mais répétitive, les morceaux comme « The Mindfucker » ont été bien accueillis musicalement. Tout au long du set, le groupe n’a pas hésité à lancer des blagues incisives envers les parisiens, il semblerait que ce soit leur humour. Julien, le bassiste, avec son affichage « more apéro on stage » au dos de sa basse a suscité des réactions contrastées, certains y voyant une réplique ironique au mouvement « more women on stage ». Ce geste, bien que destiné à faire sourire, a néanmoins heurté certains spectateurs sensibles à la cause de la parité dans le milieu musical. Ils ont terminé leur set avec « This is Not The End ». La prestation de The Dead Krazukies a été un mélange de provocations verbales et de punk rock incisif, marquant les esprits de tous ceux présents.

Finally, Pennywise took over the stage, proving that despite their 36 years of existence, they’ve lost none of their energy. They opened with “Peaceful Day”, immediately triggering waves of slam in the pit. Fletcher Dragge announced “My Own Country” as a dance song, asking everyone to get moving. One memorable moment was when Jim Lindberg burst out laughing as he watched a fan run on stage and unceremoniously throw himself into the pit for a slam, evoking his best friend doing the same.

Before playing NOFX covers, Jim asked the audience about their memories of past concerts, asking who was at their gig, who liked it, and he obviously received an enthusiastic response.

A voice vote decided on a Beastie Boys cover, “Fight for Your Right”, acclaimed by all. The atmosphere reached a climax with “Fuck Authority”, with the audience singing along.

The band evoked their long absence from the French scene before launching into “Society”, splitting the room in two for an explosion of energy. They continued with tracks like “Alien”, and an emotional cover of Ben E. King‘s “Stand by Me”, sung in part by the audience.

The concert seemed to be drawing to a close, but after a long cheer, Pennywise returned for a phenomenal encore, concluding the evening with “Bro Hymn”. The audience, arms in the air, sang along, and the band extended the song to savor this ultimate moment of communion.

It was an unforgettable evening, full of energy and pure, unadulterated punk rock.
