The last (and first) time I saw JPEGMAFIA live was back in late 2018 at Le Badaboum in Paris. Safe to say, he’s come a long way since then, his new French date is a sold-out show at the legendary Élysée Montmartre!

La dernière (et première) fois que j’ai vu JPEGMAFIA en live, c’était fin 2018, au club Le Badaboum à Paris. Autant dire que l’artiste a fait du chemin depuis, puisque la mythique salle de l’Élysée Montmartre affiche complet pour cette nouvelle date française !

Peggy storms the stage solo, as always. Dressed in all black with a hat to top it off, he sends the crowd into a frenzy within seconds.

Despite being completely alone up there, his sheer presence and the raw power of his tracks are more than enough to take over the venue.

And he’ll need every bit of that charisma to command this stage, which features nothing but a podium and a logo in the background.

The set is tight, songs flow seamlessly, and the pauses are timed just right to keep the energy from dipping. Throughout the night, Peggy connects with the crowd, constantly interacting. Whether he’s hyping up mosh pits or trolling the audience: “I’m about to play a track with one of my brothers. Denzel… No, no, chill, he’s not here tonight!” before diving into JPEGCULTRA!“

Peggy débarque sur scène, seul, comme à son habitude. Tout de noir vêtu, un chapeau en guise de couvre-chef, il met la foule en délire dès les premières secondes.

Bien que totalement seul, son charisme et la puissance de ses morceaux suffisent à renverser la salle.

Du charisme, il en faudra pour dompter cette scène, qui ne comptera qu’un podium et un logo en fond comme unique décor.

Le rythme du concert est bien ficelé : les morceaux s’enchaînent et les pauses sont savamment placées afin de ne pas casser l’énergie du show. Tout au long de la soirée, Peggy communie avec le public, multipliant les interactions. Que ce soit pour lancer des mosh pits ou pour le troller : « Je vais jouer un morceau avec un de mes frères. Denzel… Non, non, calmez-vous, il n’est pas là ce soir ! » avant d’enchaîner avec JPEGCULTRA!

The setlist pulls from all corners of Peggy’s discography, fan favorites like 1539 N. Calvert and Baby I’m Bleeding, a wild, autotuned a cappella cover of Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, cuts from his joint project with Danny Brown (Steppa Pig, Scaring The Hoes), and of course, a heavy focus on tracks from his latest album, I Lay Down My Life For You, which absolutely hold up in a live setting.

From start to finish, the crowd is on fire for every single song. The pit is suffocatingly hot, but the connection with Peggy is electric.

The audience is a mix of day-one fans and younger kids, all equally locked in.

The lighting, blending with the stage smoke, creates a hypnotic atmosphere. At times, only Peggy’s silhouette is visible, making for some striking visuals.

As for the sound? Pretty solid overall, though the highs can get a bit too sharp at times.

La setlist pioche dans les nombreux projets de l’artiste : des classiques comme 1539 N. Calvert ou Baby I’m Bleeding, une reprise loufoque a cappella et autotunée de Call Me Maybe de Carly Rae Jepsen, des morceaux de son projet commun avec Danny Brown (Steppa Pig, Scaring The Hoes), et bien sûr, principalement des titres de son dernier album, I Lay Down My Life For You, qui passent l’épreuve du live haut la main !

Le public est en fusion du début à la fin, sur chaque chanson.

La chaleur dans la fosse est suffocante, et cette alchimie avec l’artiste est belle à voir. Un public d’ailleurs composé aussi bien de kids que de fans de la première heure.

Les lights, mélangés à la fumée, créent une atmosphère envoûtante. Parfois, seule l’ombre du frontman se dessine sur scène, offrant un superbe visuel à l’assemblée.

Le son est quant à lui plutôt bon, bien que les aigus soient parfois trop criards.

After about an hour and fifteen minutes, it’s time to leave the venue, wrapping up an incredible night with a truly one-of-a-kind artist.
