Adept playing in France isn’t exactly something that happens every other week.
The Swedish band, formed in 2004 in Trosa, has always had a weird relationship with the French crowd: loved, followed, constantly popping up on every metalcore playlist, yet almost never here in person. Their last show in Paris was years ago, and this new date at La Maroquinerie was part of their European anniversary tour, twenty years of career, a limited run of shows, and the promise of brand-new tracks played exclusively for the tour. In short: the kind of gig no one was going to skip.

The lineup looked like a mini-festival bill: Intohimo, Thousand Below, Ocean Sleeper, and finally Adept. Four bands, four vibes, four ways to warm up the room.

Le groupe suédois, fondé en 2004 à Trosa, a toujours eu cette relation étrange avec le public français : adoré, suivi, cité dans toutes les playlists metalcore, mais rarement présent chez nous. Leur dernier passage à Paris remontait à plusieurs années, et cette nouvelle date à La Maroquinerie s’inscrivait dans leur tournée européenne anniversaire : vingt ans de carrière, une série limitée de concerts et la promesse de nouveaux morceaux joués en exclusivité. Bref : un rendez-vous que personne ne voulait manquer.

La soirée avait la tête d’une mini-affiche de festival : Intohimo, Thousand Below, Ocean Sleeper, puis enfin Adept. Quatre groupes, quatre atmosphères, quatre façons de préparer le terrain.

The night kicks off with Intohimo, a Swedish band formed in 2004, split in 2013, and recently back from the dead. They sit somewhere between screamo and post-hardcore, with a heavy emotional punch. Sharp guitars, shredded screams. It’s a harsh opener but perfectly dialed in to wake the place up. Their set is short but intense, total catharsis, like a jolt straight to the system.

La soirée commence avec Intohimo, groupe suédois fondé en 2004, séparé en 2013, puis revenu d’entre les morts il y a peu. Ils évoluent entre screamo et post-hardcore, avec une intensité émotionnelle. Des guitares tranchantes, des screams éraillés. C’est une ouverture abrupte mais parfaitement calibrée pour réveiller la salle. Leur set était court mais intense, très cathartique, comme une décharge.

Then Thousand Below from San Diego take over. A blend of post-hardcore, melodic metalcore and a good dose of raw emotion. Their music constantly flips between fragile, vulnerable moments and controlled explosions. Onstage, that’s exactly what you get: dreamy, floaty passages followed by thick, heavy sections that shake the pit awake.
They play several recent tracks off Buried in Jade, and it hits exactly the way it should.
The crowd responds, it’s a set that breathes, giving everyone a moment of air before diving back into the deep end.

Thousand Below, vient de San Diego. Mélange de post-hardcore, de metalcore mélodique et d’une bonne dose d’émotion. Leur musique alterne constamment entre douceur vulnérable et explosions maîtrisées. Sur scène, c’est exactement ça : des passages aériens, suivis de sections lourdes qui ont réveillé la fosse.

Ils jouent plusieurs titres récents issus de « Buried In Jade » et ça fonctionne à merveille.
Le public réagit, c’est un set qui respire, qui donne un peu d’air avant de replonger dans l’intensité.

Ocean Sleeper step in next. An Australian wave that just crashes over the room. They’re known for a more in-your-face, hard-hitting metalcore. From the first song, the pit erupts, and the crowd’s screaming the choruses back at them. We shift from emotional vibes to something raw, loud, and full-force.

Ils sont connus pour un metalcore plus frontal, plus agressif, plus direct. Dès le premier morceau, ça mosh, ça hurle les refrains. On passe d’une vibe émotionnelle à une vibe puissante et brute.

The very first drum hit on ‘The Ivory Tower’ instantly sparks a pit..

The guitars slice through the thick, overheated air, and Oskar comes in with a razor-sharp scream, no warm-up needed.

Adept immediately follow with Cold Hearts, then This Could Be Home, giving the crowd zero time to catch their breath.

The transitions are tight, but the fans shout back every lyric, every chorus.
When At Least Give Me My Dreams Back, You Negligent Whore kicks in, a wave of crowd-surfers rolls across the pit.

Robert Ljung kept thanking the crowd, clearly moved that despite the years, despite their long absences, despite the room’s modest size, their French fanbase never gave up on them. The performance felt brutally honest, heartfelt, and absolutely dialed-in.

Adept: a cult band that stays way too quiet, a small venue with huge energy, a crowd going wild, and that unmistakable feeling of being at a show everyone knows won’t happen again anytime soon.

La première frappe de batterie sur The Ivory Tower déclenche un pit instantanné.

Les guitares coupent net l’air saturé de chaleur et Oskar arrive avec un scream parfaitement tranché, sans échauffement apparent.

Très vite, Adept enchaîne Cold Hearts, puis This Could Be Home, sans laisser le public reprendre son souffle.
Les transitions sont millimétrées mais les fans reprennent les paroles, les refrains.
Quand At Least Give Me My Dreams Back, You Negligent Whore démarre, une vague de slams traverse la fosse.

Robert Ljung n’a pas arrêté de remercier la salle, visiblement ému de voir que malgré les années, malgré les périodes d’absence, malgré la taille modeste de la salle, leur public français était toujours là. Leur performance était ultra sincère, brutale et honnête.

Adept, un groupe culte mais trop discret, une salle à taille humaine, une énergie pure, des fans survoltés, et cette ambiance si particulière des shows où tout le monde sait qu’on vit un moment qui ne se reproduira pas de sitôt.

Walking out of La Maroquinerie, we all had that rare feeling of having witnessed something that won’t come around twice. Adept didn’t just play a show, they reignited a connection, proved why their music still hits twenty years in, and sent the entire room home with heavy hearts and fully charged spirits. If this was a comeback, here’s one thing they should know: we’re ready for whatever comes next.

En quittant La Maroquinerie, on avait tous cette sensation rare d’avoir attrapé un moment qui ne se répétera pas. Adept n’a pas seulement offert un concert : ils ont ravivé un lien, rappelé pourquoi leur musique compte encore vingt ans plus tard, et laissé une salle entière repartir avec le cœur un peu plus lourd, mais l’esprit totalement électrisé. Si c’était un retour, qu’ils sachent une chose : on est prêts pour la suite.
