Metal aficionados gathered en masse for an epic weekend of pure musical mayhem at We Metal Fest 2024. The event attracted metal fans from all walks of life for an unbridled celebration of soul-shaking music. With our team we have the choice to come and experience it all on Saturday!

Under an electrically-charged sky, the festivities kicked off mid-afternoon, with local bands taking to the stage in succession, bringing with them an explosion of decibels and raw energy. Among this year’s bands, we decided to bring you live reports from Monnekyn, Violence, Resolve and Novelists!

But We Metal Fest wasn’t just a day dedicated to music. It was also a celebration of the camaraderie between fans, who came together to share their common love of metal. From fiery mosh pits to collective chants, the atmosphere was charged with contagious energy and undeniable unity. Apart from the live performances, festival-goers enjoyed a variety of activities including a metal apéro, guitar contest and dj sets, and booths offering merch, food and drinks to recharge their batteries between gigs.

Les aficionados du métal se sont réunis en masse pour un weekend end épique de pur chaos musical au We Metal Fest 2024. Cet événement a attiré des fans de métal de tous horizons pour une célébration débridée de la musique qui secoue les âmes. Avec notre équipe nous avons le choix de venir expérimenter tout cela le samedi !!

Sous un ciel chargé d’électricité, les festivités ont commencé dès le milieu d’après-midi, avec des groupes locaux qui se sont enchaînés sur scène, apportant avec eux une explosion de décibels et d’énergie brute. Parmi les groupes present sur cette édition , nous avons décidé de vous faire le report live de Monnekyn, Violence, Resolve et Novelists !

Mais le We Metal Fest n’était pas seulement une journée dédiée à la musique. C’était aussi une célébration de la camaraderie entre les fans, qui se sont rassemblés pour partager leur amour commun pour le métal. Des mosh pits enflammés aux chants collectifs, l’atmosphère était chargée d’une énergie contagieuse et d’une unité indéniable. En dehors des performances sur scène, les festivaliers ont pu profiter de diverses activités comme un apéro metal, des guitares contest et des dj sets, et stands proposant du merch, de la nourriture et des boissons pour recharger leurs batteries entre deux concerts.

We arrive at the festival where Fred (Violence) greets us and takes us to his dressing room so we can put our stuff down. Then immediately takes us to one of the two stages where Monnekyn are doing their sound check.

At this point I’m already really looking forward to their performance, because these 7 bad guys are really full of energy!

We then head to the other stage and the upper dressing rooms, where Monnekyn join us after their sound check. 

To relax, they play ping long on the roof top or chill out in the sun on the sofas, where the atmosphere is really chill and fraternal!

Nous arrivons au fest ou Fred (Violence) vient nous accueillir et nous emmènent dans sa loge afin que l’on puissent poser nos affaires. Et aussitôt, nous emmènent sur l’une des deux scènes où Monnekyn font leur balance.

A ce moment je suis déjà très impatiente de voir leur performance, parce que ces 7 bad guys sont vraiment plein d’énergie!

Nous visitons ensuite l’autre scène et les loges du haut où Monnekyn nous rejoint après leurs balances. 

Pour se détendre, ils jouent au ping long sur le roof top ou chill au soleil dans les canapé, l’ambiance y est vraiment posée et fraternelle!

It’s Monnekyn that open the show. This 7-piece band offering a clever blend of grunge, neo metal and trap. We know they’re already very energetic on stage, so we’re really looking forward to the show.

Still on the rooftop, they stretch, get hyped up by hip-hop sounds, then give each other a collective hug. They end it with their war cry before heading down to the venue where they’ll be performing.

C’est Monnekyn qui va ouvrir le bal. Ce groupe composé de 7 membres, propose un savant mélange de grunge, de neo metal et de trap, on les sait déjà très énergiques sur scène alors l’impatience est à son comble.

Encore sur le rooftop ils font des étirements, s’enjaillent sur des sons hip hop puis se font un câlin collectif. Ils finissent par leur cri de guerre avant de descendre vers la salle où ils vont se produire.

As they arrive at the venue, it’s a round of greetings to the audience before they take to the stage.

When we arrive at the venue, we can see a huge number of fans with Monnekyn T-shirts on their backs – it’s a real crew, the “Simian nation”!

When Kron (drums), Sonny, Cédric (guitars), Nash (bass), Gubs, Louis (vocals) and Meder (sampler) take to the stage, all hell breaks loose! 

Gubs lets out the war cry, which the crowd follows just as quickly, and the mood is set!

They kick off their set with the track “Simian Nation“, and the crowd goes wild instantly!

The set goes on and on, and the audience knows the lyrics. The energy is on stage as well as in the pit, jumping around, headbanging. It’s stifling hot, there’s a crazy atmosphere!

When Gubs and Louis sing, it’s as if they’re having an intense discussion with each other and with the audience – that’s communication and exchange!

When Gubs asks the crowd to swing their arms from right to left or from top to bottom, the audience doesn’t hesitate. The tracks follow one another at breakneck speed, from “Joker” to “Ego Trip” (my favorite track) and the set ends with the excellent “Release The Tribe“.

Unfortunately, there’ll be no encore. But it’s fair to say that Monnekyn don’t pull any punches: they’ve taken over the whole stage, both in terms of numbers and charisma!

This room and stage are far too small for such a big band, a big band in every sense of the word. Can’t wait to see them again on a bigger stage!

Le set s’enchaîne et le public connaît bien les paroles. L’énergie est sur scène comme dans la fosse, ça saute dans tous les sens, ça headbang énervé. Il fait une chaleur étouffante, il y a une ambiance dingue !!!

Quand Gubs et Louis chantent, c’est comme s’ils avaient une discussion intense entre eux mais aussi avec le public, ça c’est de la communication et de l’échange!

Quand Gubs demande à la fosse de balancer les bras de droite à gauche ou de haut en bas, le public ne se fait pas prier. Les titres s’enchaînent à une vitesse folle passant de « Joker » à « Ego Trip » (mon titre préféré) et voilà déjà que le set se termine avec l’excellent « Release The Tribe ».

Le public réitère les cris de guerre car il a faim il en veut plus. Malheureusement il n’y aura pas de rappel, mais on peut dire que Monnekyn ne fait pas dans la dentelle, ils ont pris toute la scène que ce soit en terme de nombre qu’en terme de charisme !

Cette salle et cette scène sont beaucoup trop petits pour un aussi gros groupe, gros groupe dans tous les sens du terme. Hâte de les revoir sur une plus grosse scène !

We join Monnekyn on the rooftop to get their impressions of their performance. Their faces are delighted. They’re obviously very happy with the atmosphere in the pit and the energy they’ve managed to transmit. Then we end up getting into heated discussions about music, journalism and tattooing while enjoying the sun, while part of the violent group relaxes with a game of ping pong. So much so that we can’t see the time go by and it’s already 7pm.

Nous rejoignons les Monnekyn sur le rooftop afin de prendre leurs impressions sur leur prestation. Les visages sont réjouis, ils sont évidemment très content de l’ambiance en fosse et de l’énergie qu’ils ont réussi à transmettre. Puis nous finissons par partir dans des discussions enflammées sur la musique, le journalisme, le tatouage en profitant du soleil, pendant qu’une partie du groupe de violence se détend en faisant un ping pong. Si bien qu’on ne voit pas le temps passer et qu’il est déjà 19h.

So rather than see a non-full set we decide to check out a bit of guitar contest. One track in particular is clearly the darling of amateur guitarists today: Rage Against The Machine‘s “Killing in The Name“. But some ACDC tunes make for happy reading too. The atmosphere is good-natured, supportive and non-judgmental, which makes some guitarists feel quite shy.

Alors plutôt que de voir un set non entier on décide d’aller voir un peu de guitare contest. Un morceau en particulier est visiblement le chouchou des guitaristes amateurs aujourd’hui : Rage Against The Machine « Killing in The Name ». Mais des morceaux de ACDC font quelques heureux aussi. L’ambiance y est bonne enfant, supportrice et sans jugement, ce qui arrache à la timidité certains gratteux.

Violence gets ready to go on stage. John (lead vocals), who arrived a short time ago, is briefed by the rest of the band, Fred (machine & vocals), Fabio (guitar) and Morgan (drums) on the venue, the stage etc. Indeed, he couldn’t get away early from his professional obligations. So there’s no time to breathe, he’s going to have to get into the swing of things quickly and do his sound check just as quickly.

Violence se prépare à monter sur scène. John (chant lead) arrivé il y a peu, est briefé par le reste du groupe, Fred (machine & chant), Fabio (guitare) et Morgan (batterie) sur la salle, la scène etc. En effet il n’a pas pu se libérer plus tôt de ses obligations professionnelles. Donc pas le temps de souffler il va devoir se jeter dans le bain rapidement et faire ses balances tout aussi rapidement.

The band, which fuses metal and dubstep to perfection and delivers a healthy dose of musical aggression, takes to the stage in complete darkness to the hysterical cheers of the audience.

Their faces are hidden, adding a touch of danger to the guys as they take to the stage.

Right from the start, they throw the title track “The Rising” in our faces, and that’s enough to give us a big slap in the face. I wonder how John manages to catch his breath between beastly screams with his mouth masked. And I understand that it can’t be easy, because by the second track, they finish with their faces uncovered, which takes nothing away from these guys’ charisma! It doesn’t take long for the crowd to get into a moshpit as big as the hall. On the track “My Fate“, we reach the apotheosis of brutality. Everyone is on fire, both on stage and in the pit.

Le groupe qui fusionne le métal et la dubstep à la perfection et qui propose une bonne dose d’agressivité musicale fait son entrée sur scène dans le noir le plus complet sous les cris hystériques du public.

Ils ont le visage caché, ce qui donne une touche de dangerosité à ces gars qui arrivent sur scène. 

Ils nous balancent à la gueule le titre « The Rising » d’entrée de jeu, de quoi mettre une grosse baffe dès le début. Je me demande comment John fait pour reprendre son souffle entre ses hurlements bestiaux avec la bouche masquée. Et je comprend que ça ne doit pas être évident car au deuxième titre, ils finissent à visage découvert, ce qui n’enlève rien en termes de charisme à ces bonhommes! Il ne faut pas longtemps au public pour démarrer un moshpit aussi grand que la salle. Sur le titre « My Fate » on atteint l’apothéose de la brutalité. Tout le monde est déchaîné tant sur scène que dans la fosse.

The lighting work adds real value to the show. And it’s easy to imagine that there’s a lot of work behind it all. A hell of a job for the photographers, a joy for the audience. Fabio‘s moving all over the place, Morgan‘s tapping hard and loud, Fred is as if possessed. And John, though not fully prepared (but we’re the only ones in the band who know that), is sending uppercuts into our faces with his incredible, powerful voice! 

On “Violence Will Not Save You“, the crowd in the pit screams the lyrics, and even slams them!

And we’re already at the end of the set, with the last track “Burn It“, a new song, and not the least. Another huge slap in the face, they didn’t give us the slightest respite during their whole set!

A feeling of satisfaction at the end of this concert, where it was easy to let off steam and do the week’s sport. All in all, it was a hell of a performance. And we’ll be going back to see them soon, on April 22 at Petit Bain, opening for King Yosef!

Le jeu de lumière ajoute une véritable plus value au show. Il est facile d’imaginer qu’il y a beaucoup de travail derrière tout ça. Un enfer pour les photographes, un bonheur pour nous public. Fabio bouge dans tous les sens, Morgan tape fort et dur, Fred est comme possédé. Et John bien que non véritablement préparé (mais ça nous sommes les seuls avec le groupe à le savoir), nous envoie des uppercuts dans la tronche avec sa voix incroyable et puissante ! 

Sur « Violence Will Not Save You » en fosse ça hurle les paroles, et ça slam même!

Et nous voilà déjà à la fin du set, avec le dernier titre « Burn It », nouveau morceau, et pas des moindres. Encore une énorme claque, ils ne nous ont pas laisser le moindre répit pendant tout leur set !!!

Sentiment de satisfaction à la fin de ce concert, où il était facile de se défouler et de faire son sport de la semaine. Constat unanime c’était une putain de prestation. Et nous retournerons vite les voir, le 22 avril à Petit Bain, en première partie de King Yosef !

We move straight on, joining Lyon’s Resolve at the back of the stage. They’re very chill, but also, and above all, very happy to be taking to the stage. You really get the impression that for them it’s a privilege and an immense joy to be performing. Robin (bass), Antonin (guitar), Nathan (drums) and Anthony (vocals) all have smiles on their faces, and there’s not a hint of stress, only happiness.

A few vocals, a sip of water and they’re on their way out the door to the stage.

Nous enchaînons directement en rejoignant les lyonnais de Resolve à l’arrière de la scène, ils sont très chill mais aussi et surtout super heureux de monter sur scène. On a vraiment cette impression que pour eux c’est un privilège et une joie immense de se produire. Robin (basse), Antonin (guitare), Nathan (batterie) et Anthony (chanteur) tous ont le sourire aux lèvres, on ne sent vraiment aucune once de stress mais que du bonheur.

Quelques vocalises, une gorgée d’eau et les voilà empruntant la porte menant à la scène.

The metalcore band open their set with “Human“, a track that immediately makes everyone agree!

The energy is palpable, it’s a real frenzy, the enthusiasm is more than obvious and there’s no doubt that there’s a real fan base in the pit. It doesn’t take long before people are singing, slamming and pogoing! 

We go from songs like “Death Awaits” and “Move To Trash” to “In Stone“, where we witness a real communion between the vocals and the guitar, a real farandole of hugs on this song, the emotion floating in the room.

They leave the stage, but quickly reappear to throw the fabulous “Emerald Skies” in our faces. They then announce a song that they say is very important to them, and ask the audience to sing it too, “Seasick Sailor“. To which the crowd immediately complies with, not hesitating to clap along to.

When they begin “Older Days“, it’s madness, circle pit after circle pit, and everyone knows the words. I can’t stop gawking at this track, I must admit.

And here comes the last track, “New Colors“, an intimate moment when the pressure is off, but the gratitude is full and deep!

This set was a real treat!

C’est avec le titre « Human » que le groupe de metalcore ouvre son set, titre qui met tout le monde d’accord d’office!

L’énergie est palpable, c’est un vrai délire, l’engouement est plus qu’évident et nul doute qu’il y a une véritable fan base dans la fosse. Très vite ça chante, ça slam, ça pogote! 

Nous passons de titre comme « Death Awaits » et « Move To Trash » jusqu’à arriver au titre « In Stone » où on assiste à une véritable communion. En effet entre la voix plus que juste et la guitare on assiste à une vrai farandole de câlins sur cette chanson, l’émotion flotte dans la salle.

Ils sortent de scène mais refont très rapidement apparition pour nous balancer à la tronche le fabuleux « Emerald Skies ». Ils annoncent ensuite une chanson qu’ils disent très importante pour eux, et demandent au public de la chanter aussi « Seasick Sailor ». La fosse qui s’exécute immédiatement et n’hésite pas non plus à applaudir en rythme.

Quand ils commencent « Older Days », c’est la folie, ça enchaine les circle pits et tout le monde connaît les paroles. Je reste bouche bée devant ce titre, je dois bien l’avouer.

Et voilà déjà le dernier morceau « New Colors », moment intime où la pression redescend mais la gratitude elle, est entière et profonde!

Ce set a été un véritable régal!

We’re pretty hungry after all that energy. So we take a well-deserved dinner break, while at the same time attending the metal aperitif, where questions fly and the audience shows its enthusiasm and curiosity.

Time passes, again so quickly, that it’s time to head back to the hall for the concert that brings the day to a close.

Nous avons grand faim après toute cette dépense d’énergie. Donc nous faisons une pause dîner bien mérité, en assistant par la même occasion à l’apéro métal, où les questions fusent et où le public montre son enthousiasme et sa curiosité.

Le temps passe, là encore si vite, qu’il est l’heure de se diriger vers la salle pour assister au concert qui clôture cette journée.

Amael, Florestan, Nicolas and Camille take to the stage.

It’s a “lighter” version of Novelists tonight. Indeed the metalcore band has exceptionally been amputated of one member: Pierre, who is not present this evening.

To tell you the truth, I’ve only become interested in this band very recently, since Camille joined. So don’t blame me if I can’t give you all the titles 😅.

First of all, I have to say that the pleasure of being on stage is obvious for the band. Their smiles are immense, as are those of the audience, who are struggling to arrive, but who are arriving little by little in spite of everything.

Amael, Florestan, Nicolas et Camille font leur entrée sur scène.

C’est une version « allégée » de Novelists ce soir. En effet le groupe de metalcore se voit exceptionnellement, amputé d’un membre : Pierre, qui n’est pas présent ce soir.

Pour tout vous avouer je me suis intéressée à ce groupe que très récemment, depuis que Camille a rejoint la formation. Il ne faudra pas m’en vouloir si je ne parviens pas à donner tous les titres 😅.

Tout d’abord je me dois de dire, que le plaisir d’être sur scène semble évident pour le groupe. Leur sourire est immense, tout comme dans le public d’ailleurs, qui peine à arriver, mais qui arrive petit à petit malgré tout.

The set kicks off with “Prisoner“, which has become one of the band’s staples, and the audience is immediately receptive to the song.

From then on, tracks such as “C’est La Vie” and “5:12” scare away fans of violence. Indeed, this quiet moment lasts quite a long time, and I confess I don’t understand this artistic choice for a metal festival.

Hostilities finally resume with tracks like “Heretic” and “Turn It Up“. And the crowd, which has stayed behind, doesn’t hesitate for a second to get moving again. Flo is in charge of all the solos this evening. And the least we can say is that he has perfect mastery of his instrument.

Le set débute avec « Prisoner » qui est devenu un incontournable du groupe et le public est d’office réceptif. Les titres s’enchaînent et la fosse bouge dans tous les sens, quand Camille annonce un moment calme.

A partir de ce moment les titres comme « C’est La Vie » ou « 5:12 » font fuir les fans de violence. En effet ce moment calme dur assez longtemps et j’avoue ne pas comprendre ce choix artistique pour un fest métal.

Les hostilités reprennent enfin avec des titres comme «Heretic » ou « Turn It Up ». Et la foule qui est restée, n’hésite pas une seconde à bouger de nouveau. C’est donc Flo qui est chargé d’enchaîner tous les solos ce soir. Et le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est qu’il a une parfaite maîtrise de son instrument.

As an aside, it’s Camille‘s birthday tonight. Therefore a cake full of candles arrives on stage, and the audience sings “happy birthday” in unison.

The set ends with “Mourning The Dawn“. Despite a quiet moment that was too long for my taste, I had a great time. Camille‘s smiles, enthusiasm and voice totally won me over!

Petite aparté, c’est l’anniversaire de Camille ce soir. De ce fait, un gâteau plein de bougie arrive sur scène et le public chante en cœur « joyeux anniversaire ».

Le set se termine par « Mourning The Dawn ». Malgré un moment calme trop long à mon goût, j’ai passé un bon moment. Les sourires, l’enthousiasme et la voix de Camille m’ont totalement conquise !!!

It’s time for me to say goodbye to all the bands and follow a long journey back home to Paris.

As the sun sets on the We Metal Fest, leaving behind a day of pure metal etched in the memory, fans head home with unforgettable memories and ears still ringing. With such an explosion of talent and energy, it’s clear that metal is more alive than ever!

Thanks to the bands who shared intimate moments with our Milkshake Media team. Thanks to the organizers of the We Metal Fest 2024 for hosting the event. And thanks to the audience for coming out and sharing so much energy!

Il est temps pour moi de dire au revoir à tous les groupes et de suivre un long périple jusqu’à Paris afin de rentrer chez moi.

Alors que le soleil se couche sur le We Metal Fest, laissant derrière lui une journée de pur métal gravée dans les mémoires, les fans repartent chez eux avec des souvenirs inoubliables et des oreilles encore bourdonnantes. Avec une telle explosion de talent et d’énergie, il est clair que le métal est plus vivant que jamais!

Merci aux groupes présents qui ont partagé des moments d’intimités avec notre équipe de Milkshake Media. Merci aux organisateurs du We Metal Fest 2024 pour l’accueil. Et merci au public d’avoir répondu présent et d’avoir partager tant d’énergie!
