On September 8th, Petit Bain hosted a rare and special night: Cave In back in Paris for an anniversary tour celebrating Jupiter, the cult album that reshaped post-hardcore in the early 2000s. And for those lucky enough to get a behind-the-scenes look, the day was already telling its own story.

Afternoon Behind the Scenes

Around 3:30 PM, the four members of Cave In rolled up in a minibus packed to the brim. Guitars, amps, flight cases, everything was unloaded into the sticky heat of the dock. The band quickly got comfortable on Petit Bain’s small stage. The soundcheck was carried out with focused intensity: a few vocal runs from Stephen Brodsky, distorted riffs echoing through the still-empty room. Afterward, the band headed to the dressing rooms to rest before the evening’s onslaught, while some went off to explore what Paris had to offer

L’après-midi en coulisses

Arrivés vers 15h30, les quatre membres de Cave In ont débarqué d’un minibus chargé jusqu’à la gueule. Guitares, amplis, flight cases : tout est déchargé dans la chaleur moite du quai. Rapidement, le groupe prend ses marques sur la petite scène du Petit Bain. Le soundcheck se fait dans une concentration studieuse, quelques passages de voix de Stephen Brodsky, des riffs distordus qui résonnent dans la salle encore vide, puis le groupe file aux loges pour se reposer avant l’assaut du soir et d’autres vont explorer ce que Paris a à leur offrir.

Opening Act: Toru, Sparks Flying

At 7:30 PM, the doors opened and the boat’s hold slowly filled up. The crowd was mostly in their thirties and forties, here to relive a chapter of their youth.

By 8:30 PM, it was Toru’s turn, a French noise trio, to kick things off. Their forty-minute set left nothing on the table: walls of sound, dissonant riffs, and pounding drums. The raw tension set the stage perfectly. Following Cave In on a full tour is an ambitious feat for Toru, but tonight, they captivated and intrigued with their sheer intensity.

Première partie : Toru, l’électricité en éclats

19h30, les portes s’ouvrent et la cale du bateau se remplit peu à peu. Le public est principalement composé de trentenaires et quadragénaires, venus revivre une page de leur jeunesse.

À 20h30, c’est au tour de Toru, trio français de noise abrasif, de lancer les hostilités. Leur set de quarante minutes ne fait aucun compromis : murs de sons, riffs dissonants et batterie martiale. Une tension brute qui prépare parfaitement le terrain. Suivre Cave In sur toute la tournée est un pari ambitieux pour Toru, mais ce soir, ils séduisent et intriguent par leur intensité.

Cave In: Jupiter in Zero Gravity

At exactly 9:45 PM, Cave In finally took the stage. The welcome was scorching, and from the very first notes, the room vibrated with a fervor that had been building for years. Tonight, there was no deviation: the band played Jupiter in its entirety, track by track. From “Jupiter” to “Big Riff”, every song was greeted like an anthem by a crowd suspended in the cosmic melodies and sonic explosions.

A standout moment came right after “Decay of the Delay”, when the band delivered a haunting cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Dazed and Confused”. It was a hypnotic, heavy, psychedelic interlude that fit seamlessly into the set before plunging back into the universe of Jupiter with “New Moon”. The room was packed, the sound massive yet perfectly controlled, and the quartet radiated a genuine, almost youthful energy. You could feel that this tour was a true return to roots—for the band as much as for their fans.

À 21h45 précises, Cave In monte enfin sur scène. L’accueil est brûlant, et dès les premières notes, la salle vibre d’une ferveur contenue depuis des années. Ce soir, pas de dispersion : le groupe joue Jupiter dans son intégralité, morceau par morceau. De “Jupiter” à “Big Riff“, chaque titre est accueilli comme un hymne par un public suspendu aux mélodies cosmiques et aux déflagrations sonores.

Moment fort : juste après “Decay of the Delay“, le groupe surprend en livrant une reprise habitée de “Dazed and Confused” (Led Zeppelin). Une parenthèse hypnotique, lourde et psychédélique, qui s’imbrique parfaitement dans la setlist avant de replonger dans l’univers de Jupiter avec “New Moon“. La salle est compacte, le son massif mais parfaitement maîtrisé, et le quatuor dégage une énergie sincère, presque juvénile. On sent que cette tournée est un retour aux racines, autant pour eux que pour leurs fans.
